Started smoking a pipe...

...and no I didn't score any gov weed! Find it more satisfying than a cigar. Tred a few different blends but settled on Highland Mist. Tasty, aromatic.

Any tobaccy pipe mokers ?

I dunno. Life's pretty short already. YMMV.

I gave up all forms of tobacco about five years ago. If I could have one back, it would be my Peterson System Briar.

I'm afraid that I would be right back on the nicotine wagon. Just don't want to risk it.

You just got old

Consider quitting if you can. Your throat, tongue and esophagus will thank you. Gave it up decades ago.

Yes MD you are a rare breed. Used to smoke a pipe sometimes. Disgusting habit. My father died of cancer likely due to smoking. He was 52. Life is short. You are making it shorter....

While getting an echocardiogram the tech was chatting with me and explained that smokers keep hospitals in business.

The guy spends his days going from patient to patient at the request of various doctors looking at their hearts and how they function. His opinion was he earns a decent living in large part because people insist on smoking.

Think about it.

Geez, the health police are out in force!

Pipe smoking is associated with increased risk of oral cancer but assuming you aren't inhaling the risk of lung cancer is much less than with cigarettes.

I own a pipe, I smoke it perhaps a few times a year. There's more cancer risk associated with breathing city air every day.

Smoking is great, you die earlier and are less of a financial burden on social security. Keep puffin'!

Lets not forget the stomach. You swallow a lot more of that tasty juice through a pipe. Not much upside considering what we know today.

Doc Holloway... Do you enjoy it? Does it bring you a measure of relaxation and moral or mental pleasure? Are you a grown man, understand the risk, and free to make your own decisions in life? If you answered yes to these questions, the fu** what anyone else says.

Lot's of things in life can kill you.
It is a fact - you will die. Whether you smoke or not.

I've been run over by a car, survived two plane crashes, been stitched up a few times after street-bike and motocross accidents, been shot at, cut, fallen off a house, cut with a chainsaw, been nearly caught with married women, and been hit in the head with a toolbox.

I've had a good run. I'll take my chances with the 3 or 4 cigars that I smoke per year.

Right! If you have nobody dependent upon you and you depend upon nobody and your own health insurance as well as a nest egg that will support you if your choices result in expensive outcomes, F 'EM and FIRE UP!!SmileWavy

Learning the secret to keeping it lit... that's the hard part. I gave up smoking a pipe because having to re-light it every couple of minutes was really annoying. Smoking a pipe is supposed to be relaxing. Way too much hassle for me...

Lets make sure everyone understands that I do not smoke it every day - and while I agree that smoking kills so does many things that are abused beyond what I call acceptable levels of indulgence.

I sure do like the fact that so many of you guys actually show considerable concern for my health and wellbeing. No Shyt! Seriously, I truly am touched.

I will keep it in check. I have a drink from time to time, smoke a little tobaccy from time to time but no where near to be concerned.

But thank you all for you comments, no shyt, it really does show you guys are very good men :)

mikesride 09-19-2013 05:56 AM

I smoke the odd cigar, like two per year...always pipe tobacco type as I like the flavour.

craigster59 09-19-2013 06:04 AM

Are you also wearing Cardigan sweaters and calling your Wife "Mother"?

cairns 09-19-2013 06:30 AM

Why don't people just live and let live?

If you like a pipe go for it. I personally have always loved the smell of them.

There are lots of things we do that can kill us. From driving fast to large fries....as long as you're not hurting someone enjoy them if you like. There are these things called telemeres and that thing called fate. The graveyard is full of people who lived perfect lives.

Just remember there are some required accessories........

Can't you just wear lederhosen?

I have a Peterson. I go on and off pipes. When I'm on, smoke maybe 30 bowls a year. I'm not too worried about it.
