Got a free track day..
Offered to test drive the new Corvette Stingray on Saturday next week. Its a 4-5 hour commitment, (not including driving to and from the track) How much driving time do you imagine we will get? 20 min?
And at what speeds? sub 75 mph? I think there is a pace-car which we we are not allowed to pass, makes sense actually. Have any of you ever been to one of these events? I look at it this way, its a new car, the track is brand new and looks superb: Monticello Motor club track. Corvette has come a long way recently they sound great, but I wish it was a Cayman S, M3 or any number of other new cars.. |

:D I would hope they give you more than 20 min if it's a 4-5 hour event. Keeping you in check on the track, well I'm sure that part is insurance driven (no pun intended) so I would think they will keep you at some mph, but hopefully its higher than most highway speed limits. |
ha ha, that is my best typo ever!
|
If they restrict your speed, just do the entire thing sideways.:)

I went to one of these once. It's kind of like a time share- lots of selling and not much driving....they did a lead follow and you weren't allowed anywhere near the cars limits. We had one twenty minute session as I recall- lots of people in line. They did give us a nice gift bag. If you're interested in a new corvette (or just bored looking for something to do) it's definitely worth it. I wouldn't go again though.

How bad could it be? Use someone else's consumables and pretend you are a pro-driver.

all depends on how lax they are.
years ago when i drove the "cruise session" at road america, the pace car was doing 50-60mph. but the middle of the pack where i was, me and a ferrari f40 were doing 130+ down the front straight. i also did a jaguar factory test drive, probably similar to what u got. 2 hours of listening to the market sell, 30 minutes of on-road driving. 5 minutes of on-track driving. still an enjoyable experience. i would do it again. |
I had a "free" trackday at Monticello courtesy of Cadillac, when I bought my CTS-V Wagon. I probably saw 130-140mph at the end of the long straight. The V series "test drive" was run by the club, so it was their pro instructors sitting right seat, no pace car...just lapping as fast as you can under supervision of one of their pros.
I had such a good time, I came back a month later with my 930...then I became a member. I checked with the club and they are not running the Corvette event, so it may be paced unlike the V series test drive. Even so, it's a chance to check out the track and facilities...only cost you some time. Worth it IMO. |
