Check out this awesome Scirocco

I remember this car at the local autocrosses 15 years ago. One of my customers/ buddies, bought it for a song. This thing is clean, and beautiful. A turbo to boot.
The valve cover says callaway on it, and the turbo looks like it was done by the factory. I had no idea these even existed.
He changed the oil, and fuel filter, and now it wont start. I'll probably look at it this weekend. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1380131006.jpg

Love the brown. Love the seats. Love the basketweave gold wheels. So period correct.

you forgot for period correctness the Twin Trumpet air horns in the last photo.

what the heck do kids these days do besides LED's? heck we had fuzzy dice. :)

Noah930 09-25-2013 09:53 AM

Don't forget the Bosch (or Hella) foglamps with covers, or any Neuspeed farkles too.

porsche4life 09-25-2013 10:00 AM

Awesome!!!! Not many that nice around still.

onewhippedpuppy 09-25-2013 10:06 AM

That is freaking awesome.

mattdavis11 09-25-2013 10:43 AM

And a big a$$ York compressor to boot! Jump the fuel pump relay.

Groesbeck Hurricane 09-25-2013 10:58 AM

I lusted after a Wolfsburg Edition one of those decades ago!!!! I could not afford the insurance..... They were quick and fun to drive!

Good looking period car. I wish for the best on this and hope you update us soon.

My first thought. I could not hear the pumps running when I cranked it.

strupgolf 09-25-2013 11:59 AM

Those seats look exactly like Mustang seats from the 80s. They had them in that color too.

bell 09-25-2013 12:53 PM

I have a set of those seats sitting at my shop for sale......I can take pics when I get back from vacation....if interested pm me...

LakeCleElum 09-25-2013 01:37 PM

Great driving car....I had an early one that came choked down with a carb set-up to meet emissions.....It really came alive when I put on an aftermarket carb.

Shaun @ Tru6 09-25-2013 01:43 PM

Super cool little cars. I had a 79 for a summer until my brother crashed it.

TimT 09-25-2013 02:50 PM

I had one, a '77 was dark blue metallic..

I built the engine using bits from Drake Engineering, hot cam , hi-comp pistons (Arias I think), ported heads, adjustable cam sprocket, headers, Liestritz sport exhaust...the whole shebang....

BBS wheels, BFG Comp TAs, Konis, sway bars etc.etc. etc... Similar Recaros (mine were all black)

Alpine stereo w/ infinity drivers all around

I was a great car, fast as hell, and handled like it was on rails..

Unfortunately I balled up pretty well on a Drive to Killington....

The car posted in the pic is missing one of the most popular mods from that era...

A Kamei front spoiler.. ;)

TimT 09-25-2013 03:10 PM

Ha!!

I found someone who scanned one of the Drake catalogs....

Mine was a stage 3 build ... a whopping 129 HP

Drake Engineering

chapo 09-25-2013 04:30 PM

I had one, an S. One of my favorite and most reliable cars. Used to auto x it. These first gen cars are impossible to find. The 16v ones are a little more available.

jtfreels 09-25-2013 05:17 PM

Had one that looked just like that even the lovers but not the engine.

speeder 09-25-2013 06:01 PM

One of the best looking small cars ever made, from the great Giorgetto Giugiaro.

bivenator 09-25-2013 06:02 PM

I had a brown one, at the end of its life cycle. Bought mine for 1500 which was a lot of dough for me in 83. I think it was a 76 model.

we should have a thread just on his cars...

mikesride 09-25-2013 08:13 PM

I had a 77 and an 83......so much fun.

petrolhead611 09-26-2013 02:21 AM

And of course the 924 931 and the 924S used the Scirrocco front A arms.( which is why they still only cost $18 each

slow&rusty 09-26-2013 02:25 AM

Not a factory Turbo.

Reeves Calloway experimented with these in the late '70s and early '80s when he was building his forced induction business. I can't remember how many he made, but it was only a handful.

Cool car where someone spent a fortune on, brand new the Calloway Turbo Kit, those Basket weave wheels and Recaros would have cost more than the car.

fastfredracing 10-17-2013 08:42 AM

So he told me to take my time, and I have been busy at the shop, but finally got around to spending some time on it. Turns out, that somehow , when he changed the fuel filter, he replaced a short section of fuel line to the fuel distributor and , he put the check valve from the fuel pump into the fuel distributor. This basically was like capping off the fuel line, zero fuel was getting to the motor. Having the fuel pump dead headed, must have put a lot of strain on the relay, and fuse box, because it also burnt up the fp relay, and heated up the fuse box wiring a little. Got it all running, looked it over real good, and hung two wheel cylinders on it, tightened up the alt belt, repaired a few small other fuel leaks, and took it out for a little stomp today ( at the customers request , he told me to take it out, and run it good )
This little thing is a blast. It really starts to put on the hustle in 3rd gear , just like a 930 ( well almost)
The original owner supposedly bought the car for $7800.00 brand new, and then another 10 k went to callaway for the engine, interior, and wheels. I guess this car spent the first part of its life running road atlanta, and then found its way to PIttsburgh in the early 90's, and was a regular at the local autocross scene here.
Super cool little retro hot rod VW. It looks like they stole some ideas from andial for fuel enrichment under boost. They were using the csv for fuel enrichment. I saw 1o psi under boost in 3rd gear. It is supposed to be a stroker ( size? ) with carillo rods, and some form of mahle motorsport pistons, a ported head etc.....

Steve Carlton 10-17-2013 10:01 AM

A lot of money has been put into her...

livi 10-17-2013 10:03 AM

What a Beauty!

450knotOffice 10-17-2013 10:06 AM

Sweet!! I had a 1980 silver metallic Sirocco. I miss that car.

sammyg2 10-17-2013 10:54 AM

We had coax speakers and 40w graphic equalizer amps from the swap meet.

Rusty Heap 10-17-2013 01:41 PM

Coax? Geez that was so 1970's, true coax or dual cone whizzer tweeters?

in the 80's we rocked the world with Jensen 6x9 Tri-ax and Kraco Power Boosters.

greglepore 10-17-2013 03:53 PM

Cool car. There is a large Scirocco collector following now. That one is unbelievably desirable.

obrut 10-17-2013 03:57 PM

That is a cool period find, don't touch a thing.

I think a 911sc with similar 80's style interior/wheels would be unreal.

ckissick 10-17-2013 09:50 PM

I had a red '80 that was my DD for 15 years. It was the first red S shipped to my father's dealership in Redwood City. The second one was bought by Joe Montana.

speeder 10-17-2013 10:41 PM

I loved those cars beyond all logic when they were new. I wanted one badly. I had a new '79 RX-7 that was very cool but I really lusted for a Scirroco.
