How to make Gmail work again on my laptop?

Since yesterday it just keeps "waiting for google.com". I haven't changed anything. I can search there, but not get my Gmail. Works on my iPhone fine, but not on my laptop. Anyone ever run into this?

johnsjmc 09-25-2013 04:45 PM

my laptop started doing the same over the weekend. I can still get to my mail thru hotmail but not "automatically" ( for lack of a better word ) like it was .
I thought it had to do with the wifi in a hotel where I was but now home it's still not working
I did nothing to my laptop either..

Are you accessing it from a browser( mail.google.com) or an email program like outlook or Thunderbird?

I've had no problems with browser, but my outlook broke sometime in the last week.

What browser are you using?

Rick Lee 09-25-2013 05:17 PM

Using IE and Windows 7. All was fine until yesterday.

Same here.

Try with Mozilla and/or Chrome.

Could be an IE security issue.

Rick Lee 09-25-2013 05:27 PM

I don't want to use those. Why can't I go back to the way it was yesterday? Ditto for the new iPhone software. WTF can't they leave well enough alone?

Rick Lee 09-25-2013 05:41 PM

Works with Chrome, but I don't like using it. This sucks.

gr8fl4porsche 09-25-2013 05:52 PM

I was suggesting Chrome as a test. Your issue is IE. Most likely a recent update via Windows Update. Some setting has changed as part of Internet security that is blocking gmail.

What version of IE do you have?

I have had issues with my wireless router getting screwed up and I can't get to google for while. This affects my iPad and PC (wired into the router). It'll reset after a little while. What a pain.

Maybe something similar?

All other aspects of Google work fine in IE, just not Gmail.

Rick... Listen to the above.

Rick Lee 09-25-2013 06:26 PM

I don't know how to find what version I have. I have Windows 7 and laptop is about four mos. old. How would I change back whatever setting changed?

slodave 09-25-2013 06:30 PM

Is there a little gear in the upper right corner? If so, click on it and select "About Internet Exploder"

Figures. IE broke yahoo mail a year or so ago.

Joe Bob 09-25-2013 06:34 PM

usually if you right click on the browser icon with nothing open, the pull down will list a properties at the bottom for the browser only. Cruise thru there.

BTW, my gmail is working fine.....except that thread notifications from the site have been EXTREMELY slow for the last 3 days.

johnsjmc 09-25-2013 06:42 PM

I have IE version 10

Just wait a few days/weeks. There are bound to be a **** ton of complaints and MS will fix it, eventually, maybe.

Use another browser till then.

slodave 09-25-2013 08:21 PM

BTW, I just logged into Gmail via IE ver. 10. No problems.
