Absolutely beautiful! I love the natural wood finish on the outside. On a practical note though, has the architect commented on how the exterior finish will be maintained. I know most (at least I think) finishes like that are labor intensive as far as maintenance is concerned. If you need to look for a company to supply exterior treatment products, I have one that might work out for you that I have used.

Nice little airport right there. Do you have a pilot's license?

I drive right by there on my way to the parents' condo in Incline Village. I bet I have driven past there several hundred times.

Very nice, Moses. I'm just down the hill from you. Happy for you and your family :)

I remember your concerns about getting a pad poured and trenches dug due to the rocks. It's really cool seeing this start to come together. I'm so excited for you!

Moses, that would be a dream home to me. Right there in that still womb of nature. So beautiful. So serene. Absolutely f..ing brilliant!

Thanks. I've hiked and fished in these mountains all my life. It's a special place for me. All the background noise of my life goes away when I'm in the mountains. In truth this is what I've wanted my whole life. I'll grow old here. Sipping whiskey by the fire while the snow falls.

It's 4 miles from great skiing and 10 miles from Lake Tahoe so I'm hoping I'll see my kids and grandkids a lot.

Decent views of the building site. The HGTV 2014 Dream Home is two doors down from me.

Congratulations you have worked hard and achieved a lot. If anyone deserves a nice place it is you.

Oh and they are right about the garage...whether or not you are planning on having stuff to fill extra space in the garage...it is a good idear to have that extra space and not need it, than to need it and not have it. I always like to have my vehicles in covered space.........

Incorporating some of those huge boulders inside the house a la Frank LLoyd Wright's Falling Water, would be terrific!

Needs more cowbell (garage).

You will. The house and surroundings are too beautiful for them to stay away! I am with Livi and you. I would love this and would love to grow old in something like this... Or in a beach house. Anything where I can be outdoors a lot. Lucky you. You deserve it!

Moses, if you adopt me, I can guarantee you will see me a lot!!! ;)

Congrats man, that is a beautiful area!

Beautiful design and spectacular setting.

The only design change that comes to mind is perhaps increasing the size of the entry way from the garage into the house.

On the farm we call them "mud rooms"...a place to change out of work and play clothes before you hit the house.

Your design looks good, with benches, toilet, etc., but my experience has been that mud rooms are often the choke point. You can also incorporate more of the garage into the transition to the mud room, which we did on my place. All coats and shoes have hooks and storage in the garage, which eases the traffic flow.

Just a nit, really.

Again, wonderful place.

Definitely need to look at that. Need a good mud room in snow country. The plan is for the current mud room is to have flagstone floors with a big drain in the floor.

I don't fly. But I'm two miles from the airport. Tempting...

After it's built you need to drop by for a beer!

Looks like a piece of heaven. My only advice is to add more transom windows. Especially over french doors or stretched out (wide) windows. It makes a huge impact for the cost.

To me, the exterior blueprint design doesn't blend into the landscape.
It seems gaudy.

Geary 10-01-2013 10:58 AM

Beat me to it, gduke .. I live not far from there.

I've been a lurker for years and never had a real need to post. We have similar pad conditions in our area. Make sure that your engineering work is correct and that the firm is reputable.

Also, I'd inquire if piers have been used in the area. The reason that I bring it up is because foundations have been slowly sliding...

Probably it doesn't apply to you.

Good luck, great looking house.
