Anybody Dig Kubrick Flicks, what are your top 3?
 

Been playing a lot of them on IFC lately

I was thinking about it. I really like a number of Stanley K's movies and was trying to decide on my favorite. I go with Dr Strangelove. It was just great, everything about it.

What would be a good top three though? Clockwork Orange, The Shining probably, maybe Full Metal Jacket, or 2001, Paths of Glory, tough call to me.

I'm a big fan. He was a genius, in my opinion. For me #1 2001: A Space Odyssey, #2 A Clockwork Orange, #3 The Shining

Dr. Stangelove, Clockwork Orange and FMJ for me.

The final sequence in 2001.... people discussed that for years after the movie came out, trying to understand what it meant. He was obviously watching himself age from scene to scene, first *observing* his older self, and then suddenly finding himself in his older body, repeatedly from scene to scene... until finally he saw the fetus. In my opinion, he was watching himself being reborn. That final scene in the final sequence was amazing...

1987 Full Metal Jacket comes in at number 4 but only just. Space Odyssey was great and I loved the abstract concept of it all but I think it was handled a bit ham-fisted and it took me a moment to decide if FMJ deserved the place instead.

Only watched Clockwork relatively recently due to all the hype (if I had my time again I would never have watched Bad Boy Bubby and TrainSpotting) but by today's standards it's pretty mild.

Wow, I never knew he was behind Dr. Strangelove. I love that movie! Very funny.

I guess I should watch A Clockwork Orange.

2001 was good, some of it was a little too weird to get me thinking deep, though.

If you're a Kubrik fan, you might check out the movie "Room 237", now available on Netflix. It focuses on weird things in "The Shining" that people with more time than me have noticed and made the connection that those weird things amount to funny business. 3 conspiracy theories are detailed. It's a documentary with a lot of interesting Kubrik background, but also a lot of foil helmet stuff, too.

The Shining is still one of the most frightening movies I have seen. Very impressive.

2001, Paths of Glory, Barry Lyndon

Saw it, should have been edited down to about 60% shorter than it was. Good parts were good, but a lot of not so good mixed in there.

2001 was an amazing movie. I thought Eyes Wide Shut was also excellent.

Clockwork orange???.....really that movie is almost unwatchable. It sucks on so many levels starting with story. Just because it was shown on college campuses for twenty years like some in depth social study. Hippy 60's crap.

FMJ, Paths of Glory, Dr. SL

I never really thought about it, but I absolutely love every one of his movies I've seen. I haven't seen them all, but they're all top notch. Except maybe Eyes Wide Shut. It was good, but I just can't take Tom Cruise seriously.

It took me three viewing sessions to get through Barry Lyndon. At some point I took it as a challenge to finish. I liked it after the fact, but during it was killing me.

Dr. S and 2001 are so different and so brilliant it boggles my mind. If you have a chance to see the Kubrick exhibit (it was at LACMA, not sure if it is going to show again), do it. Amazing to see some of the behind the scenes aspects of how he did his craft. The guy was a genius.

Okay, I walked Room 237 today. I enjoyed it, but that doesn't mean I support everybody's opinions. I liked the comment that the intent of the creator doesn't limit the meaning of the art - that things you get from the movie are real whether Kubrik meant to do it or not.

I'm nowhere near the plane these people are on. I thought it was a scary movie because of the blood and little kids and Jack running around with an axe. Who knew.
