Ruger 10/22
Finally pulled the trigger and picked up a Ruger 10/22 Carbine for plinking and target practice at the range.
It really is a nice little rifle for $250. Already picked up a BX 25 clip and am trying to decide on optics. Tradional scope - dot - laser. Probably end up with all 3 but what should I do first. |
Mine all have peep sights; one a set of XS Sight Systems "ghost ring" rear aperture and white line front, the other a set of Williams Guide aperture and fiber optic front. Don't ruin a great little carbine with optical sights. They are far handier without.

Customizing a 10/22 is a slippery slope into a bottomless well -

While there are all sorts of "bargain scopes" out there for the 10/22, don't skimp. The best glass for the money I've found for the 10/22 is the Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 BDC. Yes, the 10/22 is a slippery slope
when modding, and it does not help me that Clark Custom guns is practically in my backyard. They are "the word" in anything Ruger. All my tackdrivers have gone through that shop.l As far as mags, the best I've ever used us the "thumbsaving" HC3R...Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z431UT7_-YU |

Chris, it is "good glass"...I'd put it up against some of my Leupolds that cost 3 times more.

You can't lose with a 10-22. They are great little rifles and you can buy all kinds of stuff for them. Enjoy it! btw, I have a red dot on mine:)
|
Everyone should have a 10-22.

I have two :) one hotrodded with bull barrel, extended mags and the Hogue grips. Bubba'd out-
One stock, |
The first I would go with is a traditional scope. Put a few rounds through it and get the feel.
Then modify... Slippery slope. |
I spent far too much time deciding on a scope for our Ruger. Realized that for our use (100 yards max) we didn't need to spend big money on a high end optic. I picked up the highly recommended Simmons 3-9x-32mm scope and have nothing but good things to say about it. About perfect for the Ruger and budget friendly. We can plug business cards all day long at 100 yards.
