Any plumbers in the house? Need drain advice

I am closing in on finishing my bathroom remodel but I ran into an issue that needs to be sorted out before Monday when the shower door goes in.

I removed my roman tub to re-tile the frame and now it's ready to go in, however between the tile being slightly thinner and thinner mortar, the tub is sitting a bit lower and the drain needs to be lowered about 1 inch. I'm not sure if this is common or if there is routine fix for it?

Here is a picture of what needs to be lowered:

basically everything from the "T" up needs to be lowered. The only way I can see to do this is to cut below the "T", cut off some of the pipe and add a coupler?

Any other thoughts?

That's it. Cut below tee and glue in new coupling. Simple fix.

Or you can cut below the "T", cut off some of the pipe and add a coupler. Must be an echo in here...

Black pipe is ABS not PVC, use ABS fitting and glue. May have to go to plumbing supply house, HDepos around here don't sell it, but some Lowes do, not all.

Or you can use a Fernco(rubber cable clamp) connector, but I wouldn't unless absolutely necessary.

The base of the tub wasn't sitting on the floor, supported by the floor? You should set tub in a bed of mortar, make sure it isn't supported by the 'lip'

Buy ABS cleaner as well. It prepares the joint for the glue & gives you double the wiggle time for positioning.

Thanks guys...only issue now it how to cut the pipe. The "T" is right at floor level so its tough to get a saw in there below it.

The tub was supported by a mortar bed but it's a little too high now so I'll re-do the mortar but I have to get the drain level first.

Cut it with a saw blade from a reciprocating saw. Only the blade not the saw. A few strokes is all that are needed ABS is fairly soft and cuts easily.

I'd say no to a ferco fitting... they aren't supposed to be inaccessible. Cut just below the current sanitary tee and either use a coupling or replace the whole top rig. When you think of the overall cost of the tub etc and what's a couple fittings?

I was able to cut about half way down below the T, which was a lot easier that I thought it would be. Went and bought a coupler, cleaner and glue and after measuring everything, it looks like it should go together fine, just want to double and triple check the height of the tub before I glue anything down!

Not sure why they couldn't have put a trap with a compression connection but I bet it was $5 more at the time so they went the cheapest route.

Got everything sorted out and its working great. No leaks and got the tub set and the mortar is setting as we speak. No after pics as I needed this to be done today because the tub was the last step before the frameless shower door goes in tomorrow morning at 8.

So close to being done and next weekend will be a well deserved weekend of football and couch surfing!
