I saw that add a while ago and sent an email or two, talked with him briefly. Nice guy, offered to answer any questions I had. Wanted to ask him about emissions and CA but since he moved recently from Min it was just running headers to a muffler so no cats. Theoretically in CA it should be pretty straight forward, as long as the engine is of the year or newer than the car it is going into and has correct smog equipment (pcm/o2/cats/muffler). I wouldn't tear apart a running 911 to do the swap but I don't get the hate. It's not like a 3.4 is the pinnacle of engine design nor is an early 996 a rare valuable car or even considered a "good" 911. Even with the lower powered ls1 it's making ~+100lb/ft torque at the wheels over stock |

I think "hate" is a bit strong. It's just been pointed out that he's asking silly money for somewhat of a hack job conversion. |

The only issue really is the asking price and the poor workmanship. I actually enjoyed reading his thread and seeing how others get in over their head too. :) It reminds me of my first $500 project car that I bought site unseen. I learned a lot on that car. G |

There is one in Colorado advertised on Rennlist. No engine or trans. Asking 10K..... |

Love it or hate it, I must admit the guy was fairly level-headed throughout all his posts. Particularly when people were not-so-nice, snide, or condescending, he was always cordial and polite in response. |
