How to get pet cats...
We walk to the end of the block. I say to the lady what are you working on? She responds I am insulating my cat trap. Why I said? She says if I catch a cat then I don't want it to freeze.
One day later. We are speculating whether she is going to get cats or squirrels. What you got L? She says I got a cat in the trap and it has given birth to 8 kittens. As soon as I opened the trap the cat took off into the garage(fortunately the door was closed). Now she says the cat does not want to have anything to do with the kittens. L is now feeding 8 kittens with a special formula....... |
That's an interesting one. Sounds like you trapped a pregnant feral cat and either the stress caused her to pop them out or it was just time. No idea what you would do now.
I've been catchin' and fixin' the strays around here for a while, and the feral cat population in my immediate area has dropped dramatically. |
Around here, you put a trap out and you are likely to get either a skunk or a possum. Neither of which are pleasant or wanted.
Why was she trapping cats? Does she have some kind of catch and release program? |
If you can get the feral cats ( I wouldn't call them "pet " cats..) Feral cats fixed, the population will level off there are 3 fixed feral's in the back yard (not my property) but there all also no mice in my cars parked there. Fixed they are less annoying: (a lot less annoying) no fighting, no kittens etc. Something to be said for catch and release. There is a whole cat underworld out there, you wouldn't believe.

An organisation I give money to, Cat's Protection League, catches wild cats gets them neutered and feeds them each day.

The cat conclusion....
Well I went to check on the lady with the feral cat that she had caught that had given birth to 8 kittens. She said that all the kittens had died in spite of her trying to feed them. She caught the mother and handed her over to the animal shelter where they will likely fix her and put her up for adoption. Lesson here - don't mess with mother nature.

The local chapter here catches them, fixes them, notches an ear to show they are fixed, and releases them. There is a feral that sits on my front steps. Her ear is notched and she takes care of the rodent population. We have a good relationship.

I am not a cat lover by any means. However, I have two rescue cats ( female) in my garage and they have killed any rodent, mole, lizard or bat that has entered. They do their job.
