Can I splice a wire for desktop power supply? My old Gateway XP power supply has a frozen cooling fan so I bought a new one but the new supply is missing one small floppy connector on the end of a run of 4 pin connectors that powers the DVD drives. Can I just splice the extra connector onto the wire from the old unit? The wires are all color coded the same and are the same gauge. |

Yeah, you should be able to splice it just fine. Assuming you still actually use the floppy drive. I'd just leave it otherwise. |

Mystic: actually, I haven't used the floppy in a decade but, the other floppy connection is on a card across from the drives and the cable doesn't quite reach. Thanks for the reassurance that its OK to do the splice. I am surprised that someone hasn't posted "be sure to shut off the machine first"... ;) |
