That being said, there are a couple other things that drove my decision to put it into off site storage for the winter. 1. This allows me to get my daily driver back in the garage for the winter. Makes the morning routine SO much easier when the car has no ice or snow on it to start the day. 2. My DD is a 530xi - AWD, heated seats, heated sterring wheel. An awesome car to drive in bad weather. |
I'm with Rick regarding salt...as soon as its down and until the crap is swept, Eva is sleepin'.
Why? Solid CA car, why try to make it rust? My '06 Altima DD almost has a hole through the floorboards and the oil pan is flaking away...that spray salt stuff is great... Otherwise I find myself sitting in the man cave, I-Pad connected to the TV watch classic porsche rally videos to get me through. |
Winter whaaaaaat ????????

2/'14 this guy will have owned his '89 Carerra, now with 38xxxmi on it for 20 years, having put no more than 600mi/year on it since purchase. Since I was 6 years old (best friends with his son) I grew up asking him why he had such an awesome car but never drove it? He always said it was too nice... This year I drug him out to a number of events and we met for coffee countless Sundays, he put 2500mi on the car and has been raving about how the car has never run so great and how fun its been. Last weekend he tells me he is considering not driving his car all next year:eek: Why!? Because he doesn't want to exceed 40,000mi on the car...WHAT!? He would never sell it, has no plan to, but is worried about the value!? Wtf is up with people!. Moral of the rant, don't drive your 911 in salt, but definitely enjoy in all other occasions:cool: |

And I just bought Blizzaks with wheels for our new C300 DD. Ian |
I think Jake needs to post some "minivan" pics.:)

The first winter is definitely the hardest. I bought mine in late October of 2004, so only got to drive it for a couple weeks before putting it away. Snow doesn't scare me, but on a pre-1976 car salt sure does.
I ran into a guy recently with a 356 (not real) who drives his all winter. That convinced me that I'm at least going to take it out for a spin a few times this winter, when it's dry and clear, then just give it a really good wash down in the spring. |

Like they say on the other forum I'm on...."having the car and not driving her is like having a supermodel wife, and not having sex with her because you want to keep her nice for the next guy" |

On the way to Poley with wife and kids: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382804281.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382804348.jpg I work odd hours and often LOOOOOOOOOONG days... sometimes if it's been snowing all day the plow will have gone by a couple times and left a 3 or 4 foot berm of snow and slush and the end of the driveway. I usually go around the block so I can get a run for it, lock the diffs (see the 964 really is better than the 993), turn the wipers on high and BLAST through. This is what it looks like after: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382804713.jpg The 964 has really proven itself to be a fantastic winter car. I think I get more enjoyment out of it in the snow than I do on dry pavement. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382805035.jpg |
