It sure seems like that sometimes. I replaced an alternator in a girl friends car. GM Grand Am V6. That car was NOT designed for a front wheel drive V6. I had to remove the motor mount to get the belt off. Then there was no possible way to adjust the tension with the engine in the car.

Is it shaft driven off the cam drive like the 4.2 audi motors?
