Any ideas on how to protect my fingers from the floss?

I need to use very thin floss and it cuts deep.

I usually floss 2 or 3 times a day, but I may miss a day here and there. When at work, I usually eat an apply after lunch, then floss after the apple. Sometimes I eat 2 or 3 apples a day, and usually floss after each apple.

I had my first cleaning/dental appt in 24 years last year. I didn't have to have a scraping for tartar (which is more a function of your saliva chemistry) and only had 2 small cavities.

I never got the hang of using those masraum.

I have a big bag of them too.

Yep, every night before bed and I use a proxabrush go between with the little bristles.

OCD time
Every morning use soft pic, then floss, then brush for a long time, then mouthwash.
After lunch soft pic, then brush.
After dinner soft pic, floss, then brush and mouthwash.

If i go for more than 8 hours without a soft pic and brush I get really uptight.

went to the dentist a couple weeks ago for 6 month check up, all 2's except for three 3's on the gum test thingy.

There is a correlation between your IQ and flossing.

Twice a day here!

scottmandue 11-01-2013 11:25 AM

I trained a bunch of shrimp to clean my teeth, keep them in a tank in the bedroom, dunk my head and open my mouth twice a day...

My last answer to the hygenist regarding flossing frequency was "every time my son bathes"

He is 10 years old and needs to prodded to clean thoroughly. So while I am burning my time I floss up. 2-3 x wk. She didn't suggest either of us increase our frequency.

Have you tried the Oral B Glide dental floss? They have the "tape" and the "floss" both of which are wide and flat (tape is wider and thicker) so they slip between the teeth pretty well despite being wide.

I pretty much never floss...just brush twice a day, and have never had any issues with my teeth--they're straight, white and never had a cavity. I broke a tooth as a kid, but that was from slamming my face into concrete; not exactly oral hygiene related ;)

I use the similar knock-off brand "Hi-Tech" by Meijer (local store), but maybe I'll switch back and see if that helps my fingers.

I use these

I floss every night and see my hygienist 3X/year. I pay out of pocket for the third cleaning. I'm in sales so very important to have good hygiene.

jyl 11-01-2013 02:04 PM

Don't floss. Do brush regularly and I'm told I do a good job. Zero cavities ever. So far, gums okay too.

gprsh924 11-01-2013 02:07 PM

Rarely. Dentist twice per year. Never an issue. Told I'm "doing a great job" at very visit. Do try to brush twice a day though.

I waterpick every morning and floss nightly. I started this routine years ago after having my second root canal done. I haven't had any dental issues since and my gaps are all either 2 or 3 mm!

Bill Douglas 11-01-2013 04:16 PM

Every evening for the last 10 or 15 years. I wish I had always flossed.
