The 80 is a better driver comfort wise because it is coil and shock while the 62 is leaf sprung. While hauling a load it makes a big difference. The steering is much more precise, but I can only attribute that to the suspension.

I'm sure the advancement in aerodynamics (lol) on the 80 also plays a role at highway speed. One thing I have always been baffled about is the absence of 4th gear in the auto mated to the 3fe. 4th is there, but keeping it there is next to impossible.

As you well know, it's either 55 or 80mph, you have to feather the pedal with both the 62 and 80.

The 2F was a 4.2l, the 3FE a 4.0l.

What I have wanted to for years was to build a 2FE and throw it in my brother's 60 (it's just sitting). I have all the stuff, but he's too tied up raising tax payers of tomorrow.

Denis thanks, I know FJ60 vs 62 but wasn't aware that the manual gearbox ended with the 60. Considering how close the 2F and 3FE are in lineage, I can't imagine that a swap would be too impossible. Probably why I'm pretty sure I've seen an FJ62 with a manual transmission.
Yeah, they're quite common and from I gather, an easy swap if you can't find a 62 with it already done.
