Need some advice

I try to help a good friend and fellow Pelican, "Bob," as much as I can, an older gentleman, been in Porsches forever. I brokered one of his cars to another fellow Pelican, "Steve," close to a year ago and that led into my friend doing more business will this fellow, whom I've met, emailed, talked on the phone on many occasions. Very nice guy.

About 6 months ago Bob agreed to let Steve take a ratty but restorable 69S roller to try to sell it. According to Steve, he tried and couldn't sell it for any real money. And the car has sat at Steve's since then. Steve is about 6-8 hours away.

For a variety of reasons, Bob wants the car back, not the least of which is I'll buy it. I called up Steve and asked him to bring the car back 4+ weeks ago. He was booked and couldn't any time soon. Then he hurt his back, now he is too busy and I'm not getting returned emails and his voicemail is filled up, no returned calls.

I'd like to drive down and get the car but I fear it would be 16 hours of driving and the car is not there, or just as bad, the car won't be released. I'm not sure the local police would be any help.

Obviously the best case scenario is Steve returns the car. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening.

Thoughts?

no real names, no locations, etc.

Let Bob and Steve sort things out.

Bob is a perverbial "indian giver" and needs to figure out his own issues.

This. Unfortunate situation, but interjecting yourself into the middle isn't going to help.

Sounds to me more like Bob put the car on consignment with Steve.

Where does that come from? There was no giving, only that Steve was supposed to sell the car. In 6 months, Steve has not sold the car. How do you get indian giver out of that?

That's it, yes, thanks.

Hey dude.

Has Bob called Steve yet to talk it out? Or vice versa?

Matt x2 are right, stay out of the middle of it for now. If Bob wants to sell it to you, he'll have to take some ownership in getting the product in your hands (assumes has hasn't yet done so...).

Another one for this ^^.

You are an interested third party in this because you wish to buy the car, but the issue is actually between Bob and Steve. You may still want to make the trip to pick up the car but you need to wait until the transfer has been arranged by the two principles involved.

You need to get your crew straped, jump in your ride, get on down the road and show those boyz who is boss!!!
