Ah the ol' Copenhagen wheel!
The bike wheel that's too clever for its own good | Adam Vaughan | Life and style | theguardian.com |
Kollmorgen was attempting to market a hub motor based on their disc-style servo motor ~2001. Beautiful piece of innovation - it had a standard cassette interface, disc brake mount, decent power and heat dissipation. Too bad the thing was so expensive. I never could get a firm quote under ~$1500 in the US for it. I almost bought one for a recumbent project.

For a commuter looks fairly practical. At 9 lbs. added to a standard 25 lbs. bike its much lighter than a dedicated hub motor and remote battery setups. Most of those are 50 lbs +.
On the side, I like their aux. smart phone charger + small light mount. Anyhow, I'm not interested in a dynamo light / charger but anyone have a suggestion for a mini solar charger? Looking for one to power a smart phone for bike touring and back country hiking. Is there such a solar panel that flexes or could conform partially around a bikes tubes and fork? |
