Anyone ever been to Neuquen?
Talk about a random destination! My flight leaves this Saturday and I'll be there Sunday night after connecting in BA.
Things to do? Places to eat? Already booked the hotel in the city centre (not very big) and have a tour a Saurus wineyard for next Saturday. Bring on the Malbecs!

Wow what sends you there? I was in Bariloche a couple of months back (absolutely beautiful place). I spend a lot of time in BA so if you're looking for things to do there PM me. BA is also a wonderful city. Enjoy!

Yes sir. Been there but can't really recommend a place. Lots of nice "boliches" where you can enjoy a Quilmes with some cheese and grilled red pepper.
Enjoy your trip.

I would love to go to Baliroche, but dont think I will have time. It looks awesome. A few co-workers went there and said it's a must.

Well that was a fun trip! I mean...all work...no play!
Where to start? The slums in BA are very sobering. I am by no means a wealthy person but just driving by the slums is eye opening. It's a poverty that I can't even comprehend and truly makes me understand just how lucky I am. BA is huge. With such high inflation and a repressed economy it’s slightly depressing. You do need to be mindful of your things if traveling solo as the pick pocketing is famous. The architecture is beautiful and was very reminiscent of Europe. The women are shockingly beautiful and I had my first introduction to ”Latin Passion.” Highly recommend just walking around and taking in the sights. I didn’t spend nearly enough time in BA to truly appreciate the food and culture, but I would like to go back. I spent the majority of the trip in Neuquén which is an odd city. It reminds me A LOT of Midland, Tx. A town that is going through growing pains with the massive influx of oil money. Since I am a foodie the variety wasn’t all there, but what they are good at…they are very good. Steaks=Excellent. Biefe de chorizo was by far my favorite cut. Try to have some Spanish language knowledge. It can really help especially when visiting the smaller towns. Certain phrases can be very useful and definitely learn your numbers when paying. For example, when trying to order a drink at a boliche…it shouldn’t take 4 different bartenders. Just revert to pictures at that point. I took a major liking to Fernet Branca. Very arid climate and is tough on the skin, so make sure you bring sunscreen, sunglasses, chap stick, and lotion with you. All things that I stupidly forgot to pack. The vineyards are very nice and put out great wines. The Mendoza region is more well known for Malbec though. I am missing out on a lot of info…but feel free to ask if ya have a specific question. Now here are some pics! My TSA approved "fluids" Great for bargaining. Also bring along chocolate to bargain with. ![]() AEP. If you have a long layover don't go to the airport. You can't check in till 3 hrs. prior. ![]() My apropriately named office. ![]() Fernet #1 ![]() Sandstorm! Very Apocalyptic. ![]() Rio Limay ![]() Cubano. ![]() Karting. Now THIS was fun. Imagine racing 8 Fangio's at once. ![]() Overlooking the valley. ![]() Biefe de Chorizo.

Thanks Motion. You really have inspired me with your recent travels. Sadly work doesn't send me to the most exotic locations, but they are definitely locations I wouldn't think to go to in the first place. Good to way to experience new things though.
I'll be in Rio on Sunday, so I will give you another writeup. Then Chengdu first/second week of December.....

I am jealous, Tom. Haven't been to Rio in 15 years. Be sure to check out the beaches, Sugarloaf, Corcovado, the huge stadium, the lagoonos area, and of course, do try to get into the slums at least a little bit to check them out. You can walk away from Copocabana Beach less than a mile and be in one. If you get a chance, get up in the air over Rio at night either in a helicopter tour or flying in/out. It will be one of the most breathtaking sights you will ever see.

Looks like a great gastronomic adventure, complete with cigars.
