It's the most wonderful time of the year....to get RIF'd
Sigh. 6.75 years with the company. My colleagues and I cost too much. The functions (sans the people) are being moved to Canada. I guess lower wages and healthcare trump technical depth and breadth. Wonder what the customers will think.
The real pisser is that I turned down a really good opportunity due to my dedication to the company and products I have poured my blood, sweat and tears into. In hindsight, the slightly longer commute, slightly less vacation time would have been worth it. At least I have 60 days to look! I really need to stop looking at the `affordable 996` thread :--) Happy holidays! |
Damn.

Sorry to hear, but as they say, when one door closes another one opens. Hope the hunt goes well. fwiw down in my neck of the woods tech jobs are hot right now.

BTDT. Hope it's a quick turn around on getting another job!

Reduction In Force
A "nicer" word for layoff To the OP: Bummer...good luck with the search |
Sorry to hear that you are looking for work.
Weird that they would move to Canada to reduce costs. Taxes are high and wages are quite high to reflect the taxation rate. |
Been there. Yes it comes out OK in the end but the stress until then is not fun. Sorry to hear and good luck.
|
Good luck to you. I had a similar thing happen just this past winter. It came out roses, I hope you have the same luck.

Sorry to heard that. My wife's last day at her company is today.

Sorry to hear of the layoff, here is to finding something better!
|
Sorry to hear... best of luck!

Sucks bro sorry to hear . Best of luck to you.
About 9 yrs ago, my co. rif'd about 7,000 people on December 23. |
Be prepared for a long slog but you'll find something eventually. Totally sucks. I'm still digging out from being laid off four years ago (was out of work almost 11 months before I got a decent offer, albeit across the country). Keep your head up, stay positive, don't listen to negative people and don't ever, ever give up.
Best to you. |
I went through the same thing early this year. Forced my hand on a total downsize of lifestyle - which now in hindsight was not a bad thing.
My advise to any professional is to keep the resume updated and always be open for new opportunity. Commitment to job/customers/product is always a good thing but be aware that difficult decisions will be made regardless. Best of luck! |
Good luck to you. We've lost dozens in the past few weeks and hundreds over the past year- and we're not that big. There is a "list" out with dozens more and the announcements will come next Thursday. We're all living in fear.
Keep your head and your spirits up- I've been there before and it's hard- could very well be there again soon. I wish you the best. |
Thank you all for the thoughts. My regards to you others as well. Tough times, but hopefully better than a few years ago. I will be fine and not too worried, or perhaps I'm just trying to reassure myself.
They are moving much of the company presence to Halifax and they are cherry picking BlackBerry people at a significant savings. After interviewing a few of them, I certainly question the ROI and cost benefit.... Such is life, guess that's why I am not a CEO.....yet... :--) |
