Your Money, You're Dead, Your Will spends it where?
Sort of a serious sobering thought to think about, as the wife and I are updating our will, to remove a Brother in Law who just divorced my Sister after 25 years of marriage.
![]() ![]() So while the document is open and being edited, I'm honestly dumbfounded as to where our money and assets should go after Wife and I are no longer blinking our eyes nor will be down for breakfast...... We don't have kids, other than 4 male llamas, and they'd just blow it all on female llama escorts with grain and orchard-grass frenzied eating orgys anyways. ![]() So with no other relatives really in the picture other than a few minor players..........it's damng hard to basically pick a Charity, a cause, a fight, or post a lingering surviving trace of your meager existence. Phi·lan·thro·pist /fəˈlanTHrəpist/ noun noun: philanthropist; plural noun: philanthropists 1. a person who seeks to promote the welfare of others, esp. by the generous donation of money to good causes. (synonyms: benefactor, benefactress, patron, patroness, donor, contributor, sponsor, backer, helper, good Samaritan) Serious Question. So I'm open to fresh new ideas beyond what my puny brain has that is important to me. We all have causes that are special to our heart, unique to each one of us such as: Cancer Save the Elephants Support Jerry's Kids or XYZ diseases. Put several park benches at a beach somewhere with your name on it. Blow a wad of cash on a wicked cool fireworks display in your honor. Protect Coral Reefs and Amazon Jungle forests for future generations. Support local Animal Rescue Shelters. Feed and Edumacate the poor, and needy welfare kids. Shoot your ashes up to the space station for flushing down their toilet....... Build a church, school house, or power generation station on a remote Fiji or Philippine island. I mean if you had XXXXXX.XX amount of dollars to just donate and give away............where would YOU? For giggles lets just throw out $1 million for a whole mature estate. where do you donate it and spread the wealth? How do you want to be remembered, spend your estate, and have your life make impacts and a difference for future generations.? I know everyone has their own agenda and levels of importance of do-goodery, but I want to hear some new fresh ideas. thanks! ![]() ![]() ![]()

I/we will give everything to our kids. But also our public library will get some too, as my wife is an avid reader and the library needs it badly. Think about places like this because it helps so many others.

Just don't do anything. The government will help you spend it.

I also have no kids. With my lifestyle and habits, I can't imagine outliving Mrs. Lee. She gets it all, but knows who I'd like to have get my musical gear if she doesn't need to sell it. Haven't told her what to do with the guns. Only one or two are sentimental.

Set up a trust for your high school to provide a $10,000 scholarship each year to the student who:
1. Drives a car they restored 2. Won the lead in the senior play 3. Had the best gpa 4. Had the worst gpa 5. Did something that you respect It's the gift that keeps on giving! The mr. And mrs. Rusty Heap scholarship. What could possibly be more inspiring!?

Use it now, make your problem simpler.
I would hate to think anyone I gifted $$ to took the hookers and blow approach but that can always happen. Find a group you like and get involved if you are feeling charitable. Tell them your dilemma and I'm sure they can help you come up with some ideas. |

Our only daughter gets everything if anything happens to us. Between two life insurance policies and our current assets, she'd be pretty well off. All three of us go down together and it goes to family - half to my wife's family and half to mine. An old friend of mine from way back gets a healthy cut as his family pretty much adopted me in my late teens and twenties. Been thinking about cutting in another close friend. Lawyer wants $500 just to add him.

at this time 4 sons will each get 1/4th. Joanna has MS and if we write anyone out their share will go to the MS society.
Guns will go to the 2 of the 4 that I would trust with them.

My grandson gets it all. My little sister holds the purse strings till he's 30. He gets basic living expenses if he's in a recognised school. Everything except one of the P cars gets sold.
If I go before my dog, a buddy is lined up to look after him and I've set aside money to pay for the dogs food, medical expenses and grooming till he's gone.

I have thought about this some. I believe we have too many humans on Earth. As such, medical progress only makes things worse. A cold opinion but it is mine. I believe if we are to survive for several more centuries we need to promote sustainability: in reproduction and consumption.
What is the best tool for this? Education is where I keep ending up. Good luck. A beautiful question to ask. Larry |

I used to figure I'd leave it all to a family member (no kids here) but their financial lifestyle in recent years has caused me to reconsider. I "knew" an orphaned Native American as a kid (40+ years ago) who my mom "took under her wing" and who has gone on to do some wonderful things overcoming a tragic early childhood. She has honored my mom both in a book and several times publically thanking her for being there (along with many others) and for Mom's hugs and love. "Ya can't take it withcha when ya go...." (line from a favorite band's song...) so I suspect I'll be leaving a M+ to an orphanage this wonderful person is associated with. Don't get me wrong, I'm not rich, but have done OK (as have most on this board) compared to the paths others have been forced to travel...I want it to go to a GOOD cause. Can't think of anything better than an orphanage. "Won't anyone think of the children????"....well, this time I am and it's for real
![]() ps: Timely thread as this has been on my mind recently...I now need to "make it happen" (on paper) thanks! |

Set up a trade school so some of our young men / women (under 20)can learn useful and employable skill that's not run by gov. agency like local school districts or private enterprise that charge load of money like Wyotech.

I'm in a similar, but worse boat than you. I'm single with no children, and my brother and sister have no children either. My niece passed away tragically 10 years ago and was the sole heir for all of us. My girlfriend whom I love dearly, cannot have children and we are too old to adopt. The only place I can think of is the Humane Society. I could set up an endowment at my school, but they already have one and the kids are all snooty entitled types these days, including the scholarship kids.
