Big city mayor

Anyone looking for a good used mayor? Toronto has a doozy! Well fed, man of the people, street smart, well liked in certain circles.

We'll cover his travel costs (one way)

Didn't he show up in a video smoking a crack pipe? Looks like a Canadian Chris Christy.

He did. Guess that's OK these days. He should be ashamed, but isn't.

Barry Arrested on Cocaine Charges in Undercover FBI, Police Operation
Sources Say Mayor Used Crack in Downtown D.C. Hotel Room
By Sharon LaFraniere
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, Jan. 19, 1990; Page A01

D.C. Mayor Marion Barry was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine last night at the downtown Vista International Hotel after a fast-moving undercover investigation by the FBI and D.C. police that began several weeks ago, according to law enforcement officials and sources familiar with the arrest.

Sources said that the mayor, who was arrested shortly after 8 p.m., smoked crack cocaine in the hotel room. The sources said the mayor was with a longtime female friend of the mayor who agreed to work with federal authorities.

He's got issues no doubt, he has tried to make the city more fiscally responsible by contracting out garbage collection, reducing city councillor expenses. He's socially awkward and his brother is at his side most of the time bailing him out of foot in mouth disease.
This has been going on since May of this year.
In my opinion he has a problem with alcohol (maybe more) and I hope he gets the help he needs.
I don't think he will back down from this.

I'd settle for a swap. One Barry for one Ford.

Deal?

I think he could bounce back from this.

Get it? Bounce? Ha ha.

Problem with alcohol? Police surveillance shows him buying two bottles of vodka and then sitting in his car for two hours. He gets out of the vehicle to pee in the bushes and tosses two empty bottles of vodka in the trash. Naw....that's not a problem.

Our mayor likes the Rob Ford story. It's taking the pressure off of him and his buddies. Couple of years ago a real-estate salesman buddy (who was also the mayors business partner in a US company) needs a job. So he gets hired as the city's Property & Development Manager. He should be a expert as he sold houses, right? A couple years later the CEO retires and the same buddy gets that job. After all he is a department manager so that makes him perfect to run a city, right? The now CEO drafts special contracts for construction projects that only another buddy of the mayor (and his business partner) can bid on. These projects are now $20 million over budget and the mayors business partners want to get paid. The sad part is they probably will.

The same mayor took his staff and friends out for dinner and billed the city ($2,000 or $3,000) for the dinner. The problem is the restaurant they went to was owned by the mayor. Another restaurant owner complain that this is a conflict of interest and a lawsuit ensues. The judge find the mayor was in conflict of interest but it was only a little conflict and shouldn't be removed from office. The act says conflict, you are out of the job. Being appealed now.

Update

He admitted to reporters today that he tried crack in the past year in a drunken stupor (his words).
He's still not stepping down but said let the voters decide next October.

By post 18, surprised this isn't in PARF.

After seeing enough of this schmuck in the news (incl. his brother), he's making a mockery of Toronto, incapable of making good decisions, lied, violates and thinks he's above the law.

Hey Toronto, don't feel so bad, the US is full of the same politicians.

In Toronto's defence, the main guy running against him was an all-out crook who stole $1 billion of the province/state's money in another scandal.

The next election will be between Olivia Chow (wife of Jack Layton) who lived in public assisted housing when her and her hubbie earned over $200K per year AND hopefully someone else than a crack smoker.

Ford should resign.

There's no doubt the guy has issues. Furthermore, I have no doubt I'd friggen' hate the guy if I ever had to sit down for a beer (or 12) with him. With that being said, I still find myself rooting for the guy. He's had a target on his back from the civic employee's unions, the media, and the downtown elite* since day one. It's hard not to see him as the underdog here...

* I use the term "elite" very loosely here... He honestly makes just about everybody look elite in comparison...
