Fun for the auditors

Cleaning out some old paperwork and I came across an invoice that was an exhibit in an audit where a couple o' bosses got canned. It is a classic.

The bosses could purchase service and pay for service - solo - at the facility. Not a good combo. The bust came when one of the bosses was overheard saying to the contractor "Where's my money?"

Mind you, these are dikes weeded around a few large storage tanks that should have simply had round-up applied once a month or so by the lowest level staff member during a cigarette break (you know what I am saying). Two hours work and $30 worth of weed killer.

They needed the backhoe to haul the bags of weeds to the dumpster a good 100 yards away.

That is an absurd bill for wedding around a tank. I've never seen these tanks but no doubt you're right and a couple bottles of brush killer would have flattened it all.

Looks like government work.
My wife and I just had to have a new sewer installed. the mainline at the street is about 14 ft below grade so some digging is involved.
The city hired my backhoe contractor to do the first 25 ft. I paid him to do the remaining 65 ft to my house.
The city portion (25 ft) took 3 days and a city crew of 4 guys plus a backhoe and a string of dumptrucks lined up on the road.
The private portion (65 ft was done by the same backhoe operator alone except for a 70 yr old helper with a shovel. The 2 guys did the 65 ft section in a day and a half.

That was the guy they should have hired to do the weed killer spraying but there would be no kick backs. :-)

So then the 20 yr old secretary should be doing the "nasty" with a pump bottle sprayer every other season. Let's see, skip the weed killer, two gallons of diesel at $3.51 per (today) and a coupla hours work. Hmmmm. Sect'y wage of $20 per hour at a big oil company distribution terminal (hypothetical industry). 7 bucks for diesel. $23.50 per year.
