garage door experts

Guys I've been thinking about replacing the industrial roll up doors on my man cave to more traditional hard paneled doors. The roll up doors work fine but are hot in the summer and cold in the winter. To my knowledge no way to insulate this style or stop the drafts in the door track. My door openings are 18 x 8 and 10 x 8 and I am thinking about going with insulated doors and have windows to let in natural light. Currently I do not have a finished ceiling so it should be easy to install. My rafters are not flat they are a 5/12 pitch so I assume some longer angle iron will be needed to support the ends of the side rails ? I would have these installed but want to make sure they are done correctly. Any brands to stay away from ? Any recommendations in the Atlanta/Marietta area ? Also this is not where my daily drivers reside so I don't plan on getting door openers, any problem manually lifting a 18 x 8 insulated door ? Any advice is appreciated.

18x8 & 10x8 insulated raised panel steel doors will be easy to lift manually. That is what the springs are for...counterbalance. Since you are going to put these in your man-cave, I would suggest going with torsion springs as opposed to extension springs (safety). There are not as many garage door manufacturers anymore, and most of the products are identical. I have been installing General Doors & Richard-Wilcox Doors almost exclusively. Make sure you have a minimum of 12" above the door opening for the cross-header hardware (springs, tube, cable drums). and wait until after the doors are installed to finish your ceiling.

Since I retired I have gotten back into the garage door business.

I had some top of the line insulated doors installed in Woodstock a couple of years ago. The brand was Amar and I bought it thru Costco at a significant price advantage from the local Amar rep. Insulated are the wtg and plus one on the torsion spring. I kept the openers when I moved a set of liftmasters, that I ended up not using. I would let them go cheap if your interested PM me I'm North of Marrietta
