Best dill pickles on the planet
I didn't think I would ever be posting about pickles, but since my childhood I was spoiled by the great ones my Grandmother made. Since she has been gone for many years, and I have always tried different dills thinking I would find something close to hers. Well, of all places, I bought some that looked like her same ingredients that I remembered, and of all places, by the checkout at the local hardware store. Needless to say, these are the ones. Made in Littleton, Colorado

It is cool that you feel that way. My Grandmother who lived on a farm in Schaller Iowa made the best bread and butter pickles and I compare all to her special way of making them, Some have come close but not equal to hers.

Found a place just 8 miles from here. I'm gonna pick some up. I wonder why they're sold at hardware stores?

Pickle juice is pretty refreshing stuff. Aside from the high sodium content the acetic acid is actually pretty good for you, some contain garlic as well and that certainly is good...

Same here. I can only get them at the FLHS (friendly local hardware store). I'll check it out, as I appreciate a good pickle, though not in the same way Snookie does.

Boy is that a terrible photoshop job.
But I digress. Dill pickles - warm or cold? I like them warm, when I first open the jar. They aren't as tasty when they're cold from the fridge.

Wonder why you need to chill them? Didn't the general stores of yore have pickle barrels out there on the floor? Tasty cukes just swimming in brine?

My local retailer is a couple of blocks away, so I stopped in and asked where are the pickles.
They can order them by the case, but don't stock them. They had no idea they sold pickles, had to look it up. This was an ACE hardware. I am tempted to order a case now.

G'day!

Thanks for the head's up, Scotty.
I'm a pickle lover as well. Mostly bread and butter but dills if prepared properly are wonderful! Vlasic has always been my dill of choice. Looks like they are available through the local Ace is the place so I'll call and see if they are in stock. Pickle juice huh? Hmmm.....

Basic Pickle Recipe
(for 12 x 1 liter Mason Jars)
Wash & scrub pickles & soak in cold ice water overnight. Sterilize lids & jars. Boil water, vinegar & salt. Fill jars with pickles, garlic & top with dill. Pour liquid to the rim. Dry jar lips, place the lid on & lightly screw on the jar ring. Immediately invert jar to seal & cool. Check seals & store. Start sampling whenever you want. I like them @ 3-12 months. After that they get soft. You can vary the garlic & the dill & add anything you want - peppers etc - to get exactly the taste you're looking for. Ian

Looks like Blackbird and Sherm's. Kind of surprised about the Blackbird thing... I didn't pick them up today, so cant' confirm which location has them in stock.

It lists a hardware store and a healthfood place as local retailers within walking distance from my office.

Huge pickle fan here, but mainly cold-cured or Japanese pickled vegetables.
