Why winning a MC race is cooler than winning a car race
Victory Wheelies
My friend ( and motor builder ) winning a club race at Road America. The data has the wheelie starting at 148 mph going for .25 mi. and setting down at 141mph

What? I can do that with my 996! Seriously though, the MC guys do have the biggest balls on the motorsports planet.

Too bad he can't sell his excess testosterone. Not wishing bad upon them but also wonder how many of these guys are designated as organ donors.

I road raced bikes for a couple seasons...even collected a few trophies. Street squids may deserve the organ donor label, but the road racers are generally a different sort and the squids get tired of (or can't afford) crashing at the track every weekend.
I never intentionally lofted a wheel on a motorcycle...I tend to prefer both tires in contact with the road.

I raced 600 supersport in AMRRA & GPPRO (NE region) for 7 years and am a better auto racer for it for sure. Seeing that video brought back a lot of memories. Best times but also times better left in my youth. I can't imagine getting back up after some of my lowsides now and I was lucky enough never to break anything, just bumps and bruises. Usually when you go off on the track, you're walking away with a broken collarbone, that ones weak & breaks a lot.
As far as non-celebratory wheelies on track, they were just incidental to acceleration and you tried to keep the front down for control & acceleration. Once the front wheel leaves the ground, you cannot accelerate any harder (the whole bike will just pivot on the rear axle causing a bigger wheelie). The really fast guys always had their front ends down. Last edited by mpeastend; 11-29-2013 at 01:13 PM.. |
