Havent heard of this one, whats the advantage?

The M44 is a 1.9 and a smogged up one at that. The 42 head breathes better and can take advantage of the increased displacement.
Retard the exhaust cam 4deg and advance the intake cam 2 deg and it will turn up really quick.

look into an M42 swap- it uses the E30 "1991 only" 318is engine which people call the baby M3. This 4cyl and 5 speed trans is the best swap as far as I'm concerned. You get a hotrod 2002 that gets good gas mileage, rock solid reliability, and a blast to drive.

you can use an M42 from the E36 1992-1999 but it is a bit harder to swap due to having to source a proper oil pan and some other minor changes that need to be corrected in order to get the engine to fit. The trans does not have a speedo drive on the E36 series M42.

At a minimum I would put a E21 320i 5 speed in your 2002 which is a huge improvement over the stock 4 speed, a must do.

Suspension parts are a give away compared to 911 parts.

Could you be a little more specific:D

I haven't talked to Fred yet, but this could be fun.
