Google and Grace Hopper's 107th birthday
Anyone else notice Google is spotlighting Grace Hopper's birthday?
If you have never heard of her (and you probably haven't), she was quite a fascinating lady... Grace Hopper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

AND her famous quote was "sometimes its better to seek forgiveness than it is permission". (or words to that effect). She and Amelia Earhart, are a couple of my heros.

Also the first woman to LITERALLY find a bug in the programming. She documented it in her journal.

USAF sent me to programming school in 1968 to learn COBOL... I coded my last line of COBOL in 2003 believe it or not... and it is still used extensively today. Quite a legacy for Admiral Hopper....

First time I heard of her was years and years ago.
She was on "60 Minutes", and the thing I remember (other than the fact that she was a woman and an Admiral) was her discussion and demonstration of the nanosecond and it's usefulness in computer architecture. This was probably in the '70's. Smart cookie.

Did Adm Hopper invent COBOL too? OMG!!! I spent months with COBOL in college in the 80's.
OT - but back in the day 60 minutes also had a great interview with Adm Rickover - Mr. Nuclear Navy!

One of my schools in the Navy was in Dahlgren, VA where she came up with "debugging" after they found that moth. Some of my classmates ended up commissioning DDG70 which was named after her, the USS Hopper.
