A question for the guitar guys, Can I use a reverb tank with a Fender Champ?

I've got a line on a reverb tank like an early 60's Fender unit. I was wondering how this would work with my 68' Fender Champ. I know the unit is as big as the Champ, but I'm thinking this would be useful with my Champ. I also have a Tweed Deluxe clone. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I'd like to see how you do it. Does your champ have a line out and back in? I don't think the circuit would allow for that.

I have a modern Champ so I don't know what the old ones are like. It has built in electronic reverb but its nothing like the reverb in my SS Princeton Chorus. Which is semi broken.

Yes, you an use it with any amp. Think of it as a big cool looking stomp-box.

There should be two RCA speaker plugs in the back of the amp and that's where you put the reverb tank. It needs to be secured to the bottom of the amp housing. Those old spring units can be fragile. Better to just get a cheapo reverb stomp box.

That's how my big amp is set up. The Champ is a little guy....if it doesn't have that, how would it work Jeremy's way?

guitar>> Reverb unit>> Amp input. A vintage Champ has a guitar input but no effects loop.

Which means the reverb tank is going to need the 1/4” jack to replace the RCA connections. And I guess it won't have any way to adjust it.

I really don't know how you add a reverb tank to an amp that didn't come with one without doing some rewiring and soldering. I had to relocate the tank in this Marshall when I removed the stock faceplate. But I never knew where those RCA plugs led to in the chassis.

Just a tank alone without the reverb circuit or this:

Fender Vintage Reissue '63 Tube Reverb Unit

A reverb spring tank isn't much use without a reverb circuit to go with it unless you are just replacing a failed tank.

You guys, like Cajundaddy, I think Dean is talking about this:

For which the answer is YES. Piece of cake. Guitar -> Tank -> Amp -> Fun.

This type of unit is exactly what I'm talking about. I really want to know if it would make my Champ the ultimate bedroom amp? I've been looking at a Carr Sportsman, but think the reverb tank is the answer to what I already have. I think it will play nice with the tweed deluxe, too.

FYI reverb pedals have come a long way. You might wanna check them out before getting the tank. I got one after switching from fenders to Vox and I'm doing fine with just the pedal

It'll be great!

Some people might say you are actually looking for a Princeton Reverb, but whatever.

Carrs are cool, I use a Slant 6V now and again for fun.

You are correct... not necessarily a Princeton, but a Deluxe Reverb. I'm trying to get off cheap and work with what I have(I'm no where near playing out, but eventually want to). I think I've come to the conclusion I need to just buy an amp with reverb. I'd consider a vintage blackface Princeton or Deluxe Reverb, but think a new boutique amp would be a better choice. I'm partial to the Carr Sportsman.

On a side note, what's up with Ronnie Baker Brooks and the band? I remember him covering Freddie King tunes before his dad came out.

Just a thought,

For the price of a vintage reissue reverb unit you could find a used Hot Rod Deluxe or 1x12 Mesa and the clean channel sounds very close to a BF Deluxe Reverb. The Mesa has a world class OD channel as well. These are very gig capable amps with a sweet spring reverb built in and based on the Princeton Reverb tone circuit. They can be found unmolested from $400-$600 in excellent condition.

These are not fancy-pants boutique bedroom amps but quality tools for working musicians found every weekend on bandstands near you. Worth a look if you want gig quality guitar tone at working musician prices.

Is it a real early '60s unit? I missed that in the OP. If so, I'd buy it. The only thing I can think of that might be cooler is a brown face tremolo amp.

It's actually a Victoria Reverberato.
