Great Helicopter Pilot!

Seems pretty risky, but this guy has got some skillz! Probably honed his craft in the service:

he's on borrowed time...
it won't be pretty..
he's dangerous..
sling loads are nothing to muck with..
no matter how light the load..
and I've been the load..

First time that cable fails to disengage when he tries to drop the load...bang.

Thank you for sharing.....it is risky and we are all on borrowed time anyways so I wouldn't mind been up there, seems like a lotta fun !!!!! yes I know, I know y'all probably start saying oh you are reckless and whatnot and that's fine too, been on that right seat many times.....

P.D. Oh and for those wondering, yes that is a 206 and yes you fly it from the right seat......

I have as well. He or she can fly, and the weight is really minimal so weight transfer around the center of lift isn't too extreme, nor is settling with power too much as issue. I flew 206's in flight school and spent a lot of time in tactics training in that regime.

The helo is in the dead man's curve at the pick and drop, probably why they accelerate in the transit.

I've done dumber, but preferred to have a second engine. Makes me sad I'm flying a desk.

Edit: Just watched the in cockpit video: Only one pilot, convex mirror at the pedals, no door, gets through trans lift quickly...jealous.

No margin for error if that cable snags on something though.... Borrowed time indeed.

Very nice control of the swing.

I used to be a hot metal (molten aluminum) crane operator years ago. I was suspended 40 feet in the air in a nice air conditioned overhead rail crane. Not nearly the cable he had hanging, but you could burn, squash or electrocute the people working beneath you quite easily. It was all about controlling the swing.

The guy does have skills.

Looks like he swings the load so he observe out the window and can get it in the truck more easily than keeping the load straight underneath and using mirrors. Just my un-flying-edumacated observation.

What do they say?...
"Helo pilots don't fly, they beat the air into submission and react accordingly to achieve desired motion in Z axis."

That is awesome....Any incident would be low and slow. The only risk really was to himself and some equipment Time is money in helo ops, especially dealing in trees. All well within a reasonable operational risk .as I said before..... really are no bad helicopter pilots, but this manuver is in the higher percent of skill........wonder what he is making because its probable not enough. I guessing he is Army trained

I can't speak for Sandy's sons, but mine wants to be taken places in a helo, not fly them.

He wants to climb the Infantry ladder, airborne something or the other: 1st of the 9th Battalion of the 2nd Combat Brigade, Ranger 4th to the X Power.

I don't get it, don't have to. I am proud that our kids want to do this.
