Best iPhone Case Nowadays?
We'll be switching the family to new iPhones soon, and will need new cases. I've used an Otterbox Defender with my phone, and as a result the phone is still like new. So I might get another Otterbox, but I thought I'd check around.
What's the most protective case nowadays, that is still slim and quiet enough looking to use all the time? Anyone use the Lifeproof waterproof cases? My daughter habitually runs her battery very low. Any of the battery cases get the Pelican Seal Of Approval? I still miss my old Blackberry's physical keys. Anyone use one of the keyboard cases for their iPhone? |
I've had the monCarbone Hovercoat on my 4s for two years and been very happy with it. That and a screen protector and its survived numerous drops on pavement. Liked it so much that I just ordered a new one for the 5S that I got this week.

But I love my super thin carbon fiber case. I'm not in that many rough environments, and I wear slacks a lot so the thin is nice |
I have a thin walnut case for my iPhone 4 ... like it.
Also I dont' abuse my phone or let my kids play with it. |
The waterproof case is nice for girls that spend a lot of time in the bathroom. A buddy has a daughter that seems to always be in the bathroom primping and has twice dropped her phone in the water. After the first incident he got her the waterproof case.

Otterbox.
Had the big clunky one for a few years on my 3 and the phone is still like new. My wife on the other hand has gone though 2 Iphone 3 and 2 Iphone 4s in the same time period. She does have a decent case on the last one and it has lasted quite some time. |
As Bill said above.... Otterbox hands down..

Go naked. Its very liberating :)

I'm thinking of making the kids use these - supposed to be waterproof and reasonably dropproof
http://cdn.gottabemobile.com/wp-cont...5-case-fre.jpg A iPhone 4S in good condition is salable on CL for close to $200, or the cost of an upgrade to a new iPhone. The kids' iPhone 4S's - not so much. |

Anyone used one of these? I'm pretty used to the on-screen keyboard but there is still no Swype and I still miss physical keys.

Lifeproof believer here... on my phone as well as wife's and all three kids. Have had no water damage or broken screens since we started using them. If you knew my family, that says a lot...

Any TPU case will work fine. I have a Belkin one on my 5s now. I had a similar one on my 4s. Much slimmer than an OtterBox case. You can find them for $10-$20 online.
I found the OtterBox cases to be too bulky and the silicone parts kept ripping. OtterBox customer service is excellent though. They have replaced quite a few cases for me before I switched to TPU cases. The TPU is much more durable than silicone. |
Otterbox. I might be biased because they are based in my town. Great company, takes good care of it's employees and sponsors tons of stuff in the community, charities, etc.

I have a uNu battery case. Some features:
1. While it is thin, the external battery doubles the life of the iphone. 2. The micro-usb connector has a pass-through to the lightning connector. Translation: I can charge the iphone and the uNu battery with a USB to micro-USB chord, AND I can sync to my PC/MAC's iTunes via the same USB chord -- no need for the USB to lightning chord. 3. Fully supported by Apple. 4. It sufficiently protects the iphone - even comes with a front screen shield. I've dropped my phone from my desk to a carpetted floor - and the phone did not get damaged. Cons: 1. You need an adapter plug for the headphone jack, especially if your headphone plug is flimsy. This is due to the bottom of the case extending about 1 cm below the bottom of the phone itself. http://www.myunu.com/media/catalog/p...d/x/dx5_04.png Linky -Z-man. |
For those looking at waterproof cases, here is the best test I've found - pointing to the Incipio ATLAS as the current choice. http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-waterproof-iphone-case/
That uNu battery case is the slimmest I've seen. The "Aero" model even includes a wireless charging mat. |
mine is in a otter box as i am shoving wrenches in the same pocket all the time-
still in new condition oh and you can throw it across the room if you want- |
Otterbox Defender ++
It's tough. works well with the iphone 5S. If you are using a 5S the make a specific case for it. For the finger print ID I did some research, it was the top pick. |
