computer security/clean up software question

A few months ago I had some issues with my computer in regards to a virus. As suggested on this forum and others I downloaded free versions of AVG, Malwarebytes and Spybot. This is in addition to my " payed " for Kaspersky and the Windows Defender that came loaded on the computer. Since loading the free software and running ALL of the programs on a regular basis all is good. But my Kaspersky is going to expire in 30 days. Back when I bought the Kaspersky it was highly rated but like anything else computer related changes at light speed. So what is recommended today as a good pay for product ? Or are the free versions considered good enough ? I will say even after I run all the free versions the Kaspersky sometimes finds things the others did not. I'm using Google Chrome as my browser. So any suggestions ?
Thanks

Been very happy with not running windows...

Aside from that, I recommend a lot of home users use Avast these days. Nonintrusive, works, actually finds viruses that AVG didn't

Avast

I use ESet Antivirus. The best thing about it is it does not use a lot of system resources so it keeps your computer running at a fairly decent speed. It has some high ratings.

AVG sucks. It takes over your computer, and from what I've seen it slows it down a lot. I run Avast on one comp, and MS security essentials on my laptops Been pretty satisfied with both

I've never had that issue with AVG; I run it on all my computers, and have for years. May check out Avast, though, as I'm always willing to try something new!

Been using Kaspersky for a few years now with no real complaints. Haven't had to deal with any virus or malware since installing. I do agree the new versions are starting to be a bit bloated and there is the perception that Kaspersky is slowing the machines down, but that could just be a five year old laptop. Run Kaspersky on the home laptop and my 11yo's laptop. -J

I run AV for a major auto mfg with 188k managed clients and I use Microsoft Security Essentials on my 10 home PC's as well as MalWareBytes Pro (paid version) and CCleaner Pro (paid version). I would not use anything else... No AV product is perfect, but this combo works for me!

I have run Kaspersky for many years and it has been good. You must shut down the other AV items for it to work!

I will look at Avast.

I used to pay for Nortons or McAfee. They got bloated and I still had problems when a new virus hit. Use MS Security Essentials and Malwarebytes (both free). Have had less problems than before.

Excellent!

^^^This. Ask any IT person and they will tell you to run NOD32. (ESET)

Not this "IT person"...
