From all reports it looks like this butcher is back in Portland -- linked to 187 deaths, and many other botched operations and needless amputations etc ---- committed fraud whilst in Australia -- but only sentenced to 2 years -- now he's back stateside supposedly ready to "work" again.

According to the wiki entry, it doesn't sound like he has a medical license anymore. How would he continue to work as a surgeon?

I don't know how medical licensure works in Australia. But I do know how it works in America and in Oregon. He cannot work as a practicing physician or surgeon without an active medical license from the state. And every hospital or surgery center will check. He will also need a DEA license and malpractice insurance.

He might be able to pass the exams to get a licence. The boards could not deny him the ability to take the exams but how could he afford malpractice insurance with his past record?

That's not how licensure works. He will not get another license to work as a doctor in Oregon or any other state in America.

fWIW he already has passed the requisite 3 exams to qualify for licensure. But there isn't a medical board in the country that would issue him another license.

Australia only got him for FRAUD .. ie he filled out the forms in a fraudulent manner to get the job as Head of Surgery in an Australian Hospital in an area outside of a main city .. that's what the jail term was for ... The Australian Govt spent $3M trying to get him on malpractice.
