This new learning amazes me! Explain again how 10% bondo adds value to a car.

Certainly, my liege! We use only the finest bondo, dew-picked, flown from Iraq...

Or maybe it is the new honesty that amazes you? I know nothing about Ghia's but I imagine most cars of this vintage have a little body work. I have never met the guy or seen the car... I will suggest he cut the bondo comment out of the ad.

I was casually perusing ghia listings a few nights ago actually. Seems most mention bondo or lack of because of the odd shaped nose. I guess it's prone to getting bent.

It is very rare to find a T1 Ghia nose that does not have bondo in it. The trick is to use restraint. My '56 has a little bit.

I've owned a Ghia and I'm really behind the times. That sounds like a nice $3500 car if it's absolutely gorgeous.

WTF...no heat and just open holes where the heater tubes go? Someone needs to tell him how air-cooled engines really cool. Wow.

I know very little about old VW's, I looked at Ghia's on eBay and saw everything from $1000 project cars to $16,000 show cars.

You being our resident VW expert I would very much value yout opinion on this car and the price he is asking so I could advise this guy on selling the car. He is in Medford OR. but moved the car down here to Lost Angeles hoping for a quicker sale.

I see the holes now, is that an easy fix? Please advise... first time I have seen pics on a computer (previously seen pics on cell phone) also notice the hood seems a little tweeked.

Any advice on what is missing/needs to be fixed to facilatate selling would be greatly apriciated.

Not to nit-pic on what is a nice car, but what's up with the hood fitment?

Looks like it could be a fun car, love the wheels.

Who needs heat?

It's a summer car.

Easy...remove the plugs in the fan cowling and install the tubes and clamps.

Apparently you do not understand air-cooling either. The problem is not the lack of heat, (although I think that would suck), the problem is two gaping holes between the upper and lower part of the engine.

What do you think the sheet metal and rubber seal around it does for an air-cooled VW or 911? I'll help: it keeps the super-heated air from the exhaust heat exchangers from reaching the top part of the engine compartment. The sheet metal of the big shroud, (dog house), that has the fan in it is supposed to be sealed at all points through a series of metal ducts and flaps to direct cooling air to the cylinders and heads, etc.

The whole thing is a brilliantly engineered system that somehow works but if there is so much as a bad seal and you are sitting in stop and go traffic on your wonderful summer day, (it's a summer car!), things will over-cook and go twisty.

That's how it works. In this car, it won't work.

Actually, as long as the ports on the shroud are closed, it will be fine provided its not stupid hot out.

The ports on the shroud push air through hoses. Those hoses go through the holes in the sheet metal down to the heat exchangers. The air from the shroud gets pumped through the exchangers. If you have the heat on, this air goes into the cabin. If not, it gets dumped overboard. Thats why you dont have heat.
