Gift for my musician brother?

So my brother turns 50 in two weeks and we are flying up VA to celebrate. He plays acoustic guitar and sings daily and I thought a good gift would be a device that plays rhythm, drums, etc.

Being clueless, is there a machine that in a sense plays along with him? I know bout drum machines, etc., but I'm more interested in something more intelligent. Any ideas?

What part of hookers and blow confuses you?

I keed, I keed. If he played electric a looper pedal like the Boss RC-3 would be cool but probably not ideal with acoustic unless he's got a pickup. Some of the harmonizer pedals are fun for singers as well.

It depends on the type of music he plays, if he gigs out or plays for pleasure. Most musicians are fairly specific about the goodies and gadgets they are interested in. I don't know your budget but a pair of tix to see a guitarist he likes would be really cool. Is Tommy Emmanuel coming to town? He is a monster guitarist and his shows are always fun. I agree. Guys are pretty specific about their gear. Even if he has a local shop he likes, he can always get something good at a mega store like Guitar Center.

If gift cards are not your thing, a Taylor 614ce would be a nice piece for the acoustic player.

Give a gift card to your local mom and pop music store. Guitar Center hurts working musicians.

I bet he would love "Band in a Box" just Google it to find the best price. I have seen / heard it used before and I was impressed by the software and the capabilities. You can also go on YouTube to check some demos of people using it to see if he might like it.

Thanks everybody! Band in a Box is exactly what I was thinking about, just didn't know it. Sounds like just the ticket.

Oh, and thanks, Triumph.

You want to get him a boss loop station. Been using one since they came out. Works fine for acoustic guitar assuming he amplifies his acoustic. The drum machine is not great but the looping feature is excellent for creating rhythm tracks to play to at home or live
