Why is the best view usually always in Wisconsin???

Yrs ago I saw it in Wisconsin, awesome, but now living in Washington, no show.

I am right on the no see line. Beth and I are talking about getting up at 2am and running up to the mountains to see if we can see

Nostril Cheese 01-08-2014 05:13 PM

Do!
.
As a kid up in No. Dakota, it was glorious on winter nights.
Used to walk a mile or so to the ice skating rink and it made the trip pleasant.
Ha! One time I walked into a tree as I was gazing away. :o

One of the best places to see the Northern Lights is in Yellowknife which is an hour and a half flying time north of Edmonton. Edmonton is not quite so good.

In Oregon it is usually not visible. However, long exposure photos pic it up well. Kind of cool that something is there that you can't really see.

I'll have to take a peek later.

I worked north of International Falls Mn. during the summer of 1975. I remember seeing the northern lights one night it was so vivid you could actually hear the sky crackle. Awsome.

Because it is one of the few things that can show up without fear of being shot.

Yes, I live in Wisconsin. Born and raised, lived in in Iowa and California a while but had to come back.

I am in Anchorage and would have good viewing, except for the cloudy conditions forecasted for tonight and the next several days. Maybe next time.

I am just joking with you. If I didn't have to work in the morning I would stay up to watch.

And besides I was probably smoking hash in those days " sans seeds"

Didnt see anything in Northern Ontario last night. Flying back home tonight, will keep eyes open.

pavulon 01-10-2014 11:30 AM

can only recall seeing them one time. took me a second to figure out what I was seeing. they were really cracking and I was completely bowled-over by the waves of light. only could have been better if I had reasonable color vision:(

Jrboulder 01-10-2014 11:38 AM

I went out the last couple nights but saw noting. Did the Ft Collins-Laramie-Cheyenne loop but the only thing we saw was a red hue in the sky.

I've seen them a couple times in North Idaho. Definitely something you need to see sometime in your life.

AFC-911 01-10-2014 11:50 AM

I missed out on them during my last week of working on cruise ship in Alaska. I slept through what I heard was an amazing light show near Skagway.

Still kicking myself for missing out to the point where I want to book a vacay just to see it.

Hawkeye's-911T 01-10-2014 12:27 PM

We got 'skunked' out/up here in the lower mainland - typical wet-coast weather. A shame for sure as I've witnessed them many times in the past & always found them to be an utterly fascinating & awesome spectacle.

Cheers
JB
