Runners: How many...

...races do you plan to do this year?

I hope to at least match last year's 25.

List 'em all including your triathlons, mud runs, adventure runs, USMC runs, trail and
off-road halves too.

I've done tons at every distance but have never wanted to run the full, yet.

I routinely outrun the fastest in age groups 20 years younger than I.

It's crazy getting older--how you somehow find yet another way to torture yourself into submission. That mortality thing is a wicked mistress, indeed.

I actually do enjoy the heck out of it, however.

Not counting races with slower family members where I will be the pacer, planning on a 5k, 10k and half marathon in 2014. I find races hard on my body (soft tissue) and I do not enjoy to go flat out for that reason. I do well in my age group, but certainly not better than the guys 20 years younger than me. Sometimes I get passed by a geriatric person. That puts me in my spot but also gives me hope. :)

Have fun running.

Ran my first 5k today... I'm sure there will be others.

Bwahahahaha!

Wait, what's that mark on your forehead? No sorry, it's just a thumb print :)

I plan on running 5-6 10k races plus maybe 3-4 duathlons. There is a slight chance of doing a half marathon later in the year but that is still a distant possibility.

However my times are still quite slow, so the challenge will be to run a 10k under 50 minutes.

I walk for about an hour a day. I'm 48 so running or jogging is probably not a good idea.

Famous last words! One leads to another leads to another and then another. At least that's what happened to me.

Happy running!

I would encourage you to be cognizant of the surface on which you run. When I lived in Texas, my buddy was always trying to get me to run the Houston marathon, which was like 23 miles of concrete.

I am fortunate, where I grew up and currently live, there is a parkway along the river. Asphalt paved bike trail, trails for running or riding horses, couple of pedestrian bridges over the river along its length. Can't really run anymore though, too bad.

It is not a good idea... it is a GREAT idea. Having myself started to run at 42 it is never to late to begin running and you will feel better in general. Just choose good cushioned shoes and go step by step. There are training plans to help you that combine running with walking and in a couple of months you can trot for 30 minutes without losing breath. SmileWavy

Bad knee for me. My runnning days are finished. Take care of your knees, pavement really pounds already worn out knees and brings pain to old injuries.

See your doc first thing if you're planning on getting back into things. Cardiovascular health is easy to over-estimate even for younger folks prone to sedentary lifestyles. If you have older injuries to your man suit then it may be best to start low impact to gauge how your body will respond. Swimming, yoga, spin classes mixed throughout the week can keep things interesting for the mind and body.

I started running Triathlons last year. See my thread http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/751245-today-i-set-goal.html

This didn't take place until late in the summer. But I did get in two 5K's before my triathlon, a 5K after and a triathlon after.

I have four triathlons set up for this year so far. The first is June 8th. Which starts from a Ferry.

I'm sure I'll do a few 5K's. Looking at a half marathon also.

To: sc_rufctr, Peter- I was 48 when I decided to give the triathlons a tri. Get a check up from your doc make sure you can physically do it. Start slow. When I started I ran until I was tired. Not exhausted just breathing heavy. I would walk until I got my breath back. Then I would run some more/walk. It took about two weeks before I could run a mile non stop. After that it was setting distance goals. I also used P90X. Ab work out, stretching, core to get my gut down and strengthen my mid section.
