Trust... ...but backup. :-)

I have been running SSDs for a while now. Kingston in my desktop PC, OCZ Agility in my personal laptop and Samsung in my work laptop.

Always have an HDD for all your important files, documentsn etc. The SSD just gets OS and Applications.

I haven't really looked at Carbonite, but I imagine they are similar.

I have Samsung 840s in both of my Mac Laptops,

and replaced each DVD drive with a 1TB or 2TB spinner for all my stuff.

Works great, and I back it up all the time.

I replaced dropbox with it for several reasons.

I have a need to share a lot of data with others. With dropbox if I have for example a 10 GB account limit and have 5 gb used and someone shares 5gb with me my account is full. More than 5 gb and i either need to manage my space or pay for more.

Dropbox double dips.

With copy.com, under the same scenario the shared 5 gb is split by the number of people sharing it. So it it's only two of us it only counts as 2.5 gb towards our limit, if four people share it it only counts as 1.25 gb for each of us.

Copy counts shares equitably.

I have way too many email addresses, I have specific ones for specific clients, some of them are the clients domain so when they share with me they use that email address. Your dropbox account is linked to one specific email address. So I need multiple dropbox accounts, one for each client. You can only have one dropbpox app per PC (not really but it's a PIA to have multiple) and the app is locked to a specific email, no user switching requiring you to use the web client which is just so-so.

With copy you have one primary account and can associate different email addresses with it so you have one place to manage all your shared data.

Copy.coms web interface is much better than dropbox as well.

Minor update: I put in a Samsung 840 Pro and the thing is flawless. It's super quick and really makes this old laptop feel like a new machine. Thanks for all the tips!

I use SSD in my Macbook Retina and do a periodic backup to a 1TB external usb drive.

I went to Mac in order to get the flash hard drive. The drive is much faster, and uses less battery than the old HDD.

Hard drive rules are the same for any type:

"It is not a question IF your hard drive will fail, only WHEN".
