ex Fullerton cops cleared of beating death

Ex-cops charged in beating death of Kelly Thomas found not guilty - CNN.com

Well, they beat the charges......what next?

sammyg2 01-15-2014 08:06 AM

I heard that all the skitzo meth-head thieves in Fullerton are arranging a protest.

EDIT:
While i do not agree with the current rules they state that when a person is detained by police, the police are allowed to use certain types of force if the person resists.
That force can include hits with a baton on the legs and lower extremities, physical restraints including tackling, arm bars, choke holds, etc.
Most cops use common sense and apply this force under control and with a reasonable amount of discipline.
The problem arrises when barney fife gets all hopped up on adrenaline and he and his 6 buddies get caught up in it and beat the hell out of someone for resisting.

Someone with common sense will not resist and there won't be a problem. But when someone with the mental capacity of a beer can can't grasp that simple concept, they'll get the crap kicked out of them every time.
And that is perfectly OK with the current rules as written.

Morally the cops were probably wrong, but legally they were within the rules.
Instead of blaming the cops we need to change the rules so the mental midgets with chips on their shoulders can't legally beat the crap out of anyone just because they feel like it.

Disturbing video in that link.

A difficult arrest to say the least.

I'm not sure how difficult it is to just lay there and not flinch and squirm while they beat you.

Hope to never find out.

Sammy, the toxicology report said that no drugs were in his system.

The autopsy showed that he had an enlarged heart atrributed to chronic use of methanphetamine.
He was just in-between fixes.
I editted my original post to include further explanation of my opinions. I do not think it's OK for the cops to beat the hell out of anyone, although some folks prolly deserve it more than others.
I felt bad for this guy, even if he was a complete mess.
His father was the one who I felt deserved a good whooping.
It seemed like he didn't give a darn about his kid when he was wandering the streets committing crimes etc, but afterward he was all upset and made a huge deal out of it. He'll prolly get a big cash settlement out of it.
Seems to me like that's all he cared about anyway. Hard to say for sure but that's the impression I got from watching it on the news.

It's for due process of the law to determine which folks deserve punishment and what kind, not the cops.

And don't you forget it.

What, no cheesy Eastwood quote about deseves got nothing to do with it?
Cops have a certain amount of discression. Whether they abuse it is up to them.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

As far as not forgetting it, I'm an old man who's health problems have finally caught up to him, the only thing I can punish anymore is a small bag of chips.

But in my yoot it was a different story I tell you what ............

flyenby 01-15-2014 05:27 PM

If the police can do it to him......they can do it to you. All it takes a run in with the wrong ones

RWebb 01-15-2014 06:28 PM

Not unusual for bad cops to use pain compliance holds, etc. to try and force a guy to struggle - then they get to beat the H out of him. Happens a lot around here.

Watching the surveillance video, it's clear that Thomas was non-violent and cooperative. It's equally clear that these two cops knew him and had dealt with him on numerous occasions in the past. Thomas did his level best for about 15 minutes to do absolutely everything asked of him. Then, at about 16 minutes, the fat cop says - very, very clearly - "these fists are getting ready to eff you up". So who escalated this? Who turned this into a violent encounter? It sure as hell was not Thomas.

Apparently the feds get another crack at these two under some sort of civil rights charges. While I would normally decry that as some form of "double jeopardy", I sincerely hope these two are brought to justice at this next round. They both need to rot in jail for a very long time.

Such a sad story on so many levels.

msort81 01-16-2014 05:04 PM

Appalling bullies who should absolutely be in prison. Murder by badge wearing 'Public servants' should not be tolerated in any community.
I hope that guilt and shame conspire to rob these ignorant murderers of any peace.

VINMAN 01-16-2014 08:17 PM

I truly hope these POS are charged federally They shouldn't be walking among decent civil humans. As far as the useless idiots that let them walk, while I normally don't wish bad things on anyone, all I can say is Karma will get you one day.

I can't watch that video. I am no lawyer, how can the jury let those cops go?

We do have a bit of a problem with cops having God complexes and disrespecting lives.

UPDATE WITH VIDEO: Officer Shoots Dog at Boy's Birthday Party

As for the Kelly Thomas killing, what disturbs me most is not the cops beating the guy to death for no good reason -- that happens all the time. My problem is that the defense attorneys used the defense that 'the officers were just following their training.' Well, that didn't work for the SS at Nuremberg. Why'd it work here?
