Wife needs to be in NJ superbowl weekend, travel advice needed

My wife needs to be in New Jersey on Fri of SuperBowl (TM) weekend. To fly from Houston to Newark is about 1500. Trying to avoid paying that and am looking for suggestions on travel. She could land nearby and rent a car but we are no familiar with the area and are seeking advice. Any suggestions?

Can you provide where she is heading in NJ? That will influence any recommendation. Also, is she just flying in-and-out the same day, or is she staying overnight at all? The dates would help.

JetBlue does fly from Houston to JFK. I checked and their round-trip price is around $400.

Look into Philly or Trenton. I believe frontier flies into Trenton.

Ok, she needs to arrive on Thursday for a Friday meeting and fly out on Friday afternoon. The meeting is in a town near Newark called Totowa. Flying into a nearby city was my suggestion and she is now looking into the Philly suggestion from BR. Thanksdude. The JetBlue suggestion was a gooder also. Thanks for the responses.

Totowa is a 2 hr drive from Philly, but with the price difference that is fairly substantial.

Here is a flight for the times that you listed. $581 RT UA 2 stopper. The connections kinda suck. For a biz trip I reccomend no mas 1 stop.

Damn. Nevermind. The return flight leaves in the AM and you need PM.

JFK is fine, but getting to JFK or LGA on a Friday PM is going to SUCK. Heck, driving anywhere in Jersey will suck on a Friday evening.

JetBlue does not have a flight to Houston that leaves late on a Friday. If she can spend another night, there is a flight out early on Saturday morning.

Another option is Atlantic city Airport.

Totowa is close to Giants stadium. Travel in the area that weekend is gonna suck. Period.

Also check out flying in-out of Westchester County Airport (HPN) in White Plains. It is about a 50 minute drive to Totowa. But, coming from this direction into Totowa she can avoid the NJ Turnpike. But, there are no non-stop flights from Houston.

Yeah, Philly on Spirit.

Had to book a last minute flight to see a client in Newark.

$250 round trip non stop booked 2 days before the flight vs $1,500 on the majors.

Totowa is a bit of a stretch from Philly.

La Guardia, Kennedy and even Islip out on LI are closer.

These are very good options - though a bit further from Totowa than Newark airport.

I live in the next town over from Totowa. If she has some downtime during the day, she can check out the Paterson Falls in Paterson, NJ, which was recently made into a National Historical Park. Also - she should check out Geolitti's on Union Blvd on the Totowa / Paterson border - best homemade icecream around!

If you need more info on the local area, pm me.

Has your wife been to this part pf NJ before?

All the suggestions so far are good, but if she has train skills, there are other options.

She should know that driving from any of the airports mentioned is going to be a bit tough traffic wise, especially White Plains or any NYC area airport except Newark. And if the weather is bad, buckle up.

She is in travel limbo, betwixt and between. I am not from that area but have been there a bunch on business (was in Clifton and Patterson last Friday/Sat): Made sure she has a good GPS if she drives.

I like the Newburgh and Allentown suggestions best if she is not train savvy.

I think its a little crazy sending someone who is not from the area to some of these smaller regional airports, then have them drive 2 hours on unfamiliar roads to their destination.....

Totowa is about 22 miles from Newark... even driving on side streets you could cover that distance in a not to long a time (Bloomfield Ave)

Occam he has a razor..

I found a round trip fare, one layover each way, Houston to Newark $317

When she arrives Newark, have her hire a black car... she can veg in the back while she is driven to Totowa....via the Garden State Pkwy... (avoiding the Meadowlands Complex)

Maybe $90 for a black car two ways, $317 for the flight other odds and ends.. a taxi in Totowa...$500 for travel tops...
