How do you congratulate someone on their anniversary when their partner is deceased?

Today in 1970 my Mom and my deceased stepdad were married.

He's been gone since 2006.

Eight years.

My oldest brother called me on my cell phone this morning and wanted to remind me it was their anniversary.

I really don't know why you would even bring that up to someone if one has been gone now for so long.

What would you say..."Hey Mom...I know he's no longer here but happy anniversary anyway"?

I understand that it is an important date for the person who was married but to others....?

Celebrate what a nice guy he is. Tell ur Mom you miss him.

"I'm thinking of you on this special day. I love you."

OK thanks - I guess it would be OK to tell her it would have been 44 years....that's letting her know I recognize the importance for her while not saying it's a celebration per se....

Thanks for your feedback and help! :)
