S-PARF. Surely Others are Thinking the Same Thing...

Time for a forum change. Shootings, politics and religion.

Spoon talk doesn't seem to rile the masses the same way a good 'stand-your-ground' incident does....

70SATMan 01-17-2014 08:22 AM

The thread about the shooting has been apolitical. Most everyone has been civil with out dragging a gun debate into it...

I'm willing to give all of the participants a gold star.

I'm sure at least one will really appreciate it too....

Names have been withheld to protect the childish :p

True. But that's also often the case in PARF. It's the minority that can't let go.

True...

Down with Minorities!:D

juanbenae 01-17-2014 09:42 AM

leave PARF in PARF if you will,,, please.

onewhippedpuppy 01-17-2014 10:03 AM

Why? It's one thread, I punched out of it two days ago. If you don't like it, don't click on it. PARF was created because the entire damned OT forum was full of politics and religion pissing matches. I don't see that happening today.

Yep. Leave it as is.

LakeCleElum 01-17-2014 10:15 AM

It's a damn shame a pop-corn tosser had to die to get the "Arrogant Engineer" thread to finally fade away.

FLYGEEZER 01-17-2014 10:21 AM

Lets not talk guns/shooting on the internet......on this site.....Don't give THEM another source to pry you of your pleasures.. don't post pictures of your "spoons" or any firearm. Keep your hand close to your vest, move on quietly, don't draw attention to yourself that way. If ya need attention that bad....get the Porsche out and go for a ride.

Hey, this engineer enjoyed that thread!

KFC911 01-17-2014 10:29 AM

Flygeezer, I do believe that ship has left the station or that train has sailed...YMMV :D

ps: Nothing wrong with that other thread....just healthy debate with a few "PARF tactics" thrown in for good measure by a few.

I try not to keep looking at that sailboat wreck, but I just can't help myself either....much like that long running TM/GZ thread :p

Good point.
Certain people (here) pull out the religion card, at the drop of hat.
They refuse to do otherwise.
PARF is the place, by design.
:)

Intelligent Design.

scottmandue 01-18-2014 07:09 AM

Although the other thread has gone redonculous.... it was mostly four or five posters re-re-re stated their opinion. It was somewhat amusing at first but then it got to be like a bloody automobile accident... you want to but you just can't look away.

However I did not see any inherent political/religious content (not that I studied it that intensely).
Of course any discussion involving guns is dancing on the political line for obvious reasons (second amendment).

Pulling the anti-religion card is still pulling the religion card.

fintstone 01-18-2014 10:23 AM

Yep..why discus anything that requires any thought at all? No one can argue with photos of your wife or significant other (we are not rude enough to tell you they are really pretty homely), or what TV show you like...but the "whether or not to manscape" and the many Mustang and Corvette threads...now those a little contentious. I don't understand how they got past the self appointed PARF Police that primarily post in OT where everyone agrees with everything (pablum).

silver912e 01-18-2014 10:51 AM

....and don't call me Shirley

scottmandue 01-18-2014 10:56 AM

There is more to life than arguing.

fintstone 01-18-2014 11:04 AM

Yes...one could search thread to thread and fnd someone discussing a complex adult issue and complain about them...maybe open a thread to make fun of...or insult them.

Bill Douglas 01-18-2014 11:12 AM

Off topic isn't just about Porsches.

There is more to life than just Porsches. Dogs, chainsaws, guns and bacon.

fintstone 01-18-2014 11:31 AM

LOL...although those are some mighty fine things.

DanielDudley 01-18-2014 11:50 AM

A lot of these intelligent discussions seem to have trodden over the same ground in the same way with the same people saying the same things in the same character for some time. Some slight semantic variations might occur.

I sort of kinda lost interest in ''discussion'' when people started openly admitting that they would not be friends with people who don't openly agree with their views, and had no respect for people who disagree with them. Then I think one day after that someone inferred something about someone else's wife, and well, I suppose I could drag it up and quote it for amusement...

But I can tell you right now that it would horrify half of the good people who frequent OT.

Yeah, yeah, sharpens the intellect, spirited debate, all in good fun. SmileWavy

fintstone 01-18-2014 04:32 PM

Actually it is intellectually challenging...and all on good fun. Thin skins should stick to less challenging debate.

Hugh R 01-18-2014 04:56 PM

I'm fine with Polite, political discourse on PARF. What bothers me is when someone resorts to name calling and insults thinking that will "win" a discussion/argument. It shows people's true colors. "I'm losing my position, so I'll attack your religion/heritage/lifestyle/etc. I mean really? Are some of you that juvenile?

There was one on that? I would like to see that... especially to see what the pro-manscaping lobby says... it gives me the creeps to even see guys who do their eyebrows.

Creepy local TV weatherdude...

fintstone 01-18-2014 09:33 PM

There were at least two polls on manscaping. I wqs quite surprised...apparently it is pretty common. Here is one (apparently a topic these fellows feel more comfortable discussing than politics/religion/shooting-a more acceptable OT thread):

Hahahaha! I just voted: "No, and your a fruit"

That thread ended before I got here.

Now, as I'm typing this, I hope that voting doesn't bump the thread.
