It's pronounced Ken's. Like you're going to Ken's house. And on Sunday I'm going to Melbin. Hey Mothy, what's it like in wollongong? It's nice and close to Sudney. . |
Dunno - these days I live in Mudgee (pronounced Ma Gee), which is not far from Bathurst (baa thest)
For the benefit our our USA friends, Australians do not pronounce their R's or D's and if we can shorten it we will. |
Hey Bill
When I used to live in North Sydney - I heard it pronounced a lot like "cans" - a little softer than we here would say cans - kanz Cheers JB |
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio gogogoch
(pronounced [ˌɬanvairˌpuɬɡwɨ̞nˌɡɨ̞ɬɡoˌɡɛrəˌχwərnˌdrobuɬˌɬantɨ̞ˌ siljoˌɡoɡoˈɡoch, is a large village and community on the island of Anglesey in Wales, situated on the Menai Strait. Translation Saint Mary's Church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio of the red cave. |
^^^The only time I ever heard that pronounced out loud was when I was forced by my then current girlfriend (who just happened to be Welsh) to watch Tom Jones weekly variety show & he said the name in response to some fan mail - totally Greek to me. It seemed at the time it was a whole sentence which Thanks to Julian, I now know it was.
Cheers JB |
I've just got back from Melbourne. AND it's not pronounced Melbin - that's the dirty kiwis that turn up in their thousands everyday. It's pronounced Mal-burn by the gorgeous, well educated young chickies who have populated the city.
While we are talking Melbourne... Melbourne is a beautiful city with river cruises, great bars, more European than Europe (well, almost), easy to get around with trams and cheap taxis. GREAT food. I'm not a "shopping" sorta guy but I did end up doing quite a lot of shopping - everything is so nice there :) So if you are visiting the great country of Australia, don't just go to Sydney, go south as well. |

There's a road here, Powhite Pkwy. Depending on where you live, it is either Po-white (insert w.t. Joke here) or Pow-hite.
