I could and have stared at an SS frame all day. It's art to me.
I only ever rode a 750SS. Small, yes. Wonderful all the same.

Just thought I'd throw up another picture from a ride a couple of weeks ago.

Yes they are... until you actually buy one. Well known for the potential to develop a few serious and very expensive problems (valve guides. etc.), and maintenance costs are a good deal higher than the Super Sport. That, and the riding position is far more sport focused (read uncomfortable) than the Super Sport.

Not that I haven't been looking, mind you... the alure is strong, in spite of any of these concerns.

tell me fellas...do the carb'd Ducs have a lean stumble around 3-4K rpm?

This thread is killing me. I have been researching Ducatis all winter. Debating 916/996/998 for a while, now considering the 1098 as the 2007 and 2008 years are dipping under $10k.

I already have a bunch of toys and the wife is making some very nasty noises when the Duc conversation comes up.

What would Hunter S Thompson do?

Hmmmmm....:D

Thompson would have struck a deal to swap his (my) red, low mile, super nice, marchesini'd, temignoni'd 916 (that would free up room in for your garage and make the Mrs. happy) for your presumably equally nice red '89 carrera. He told me so himself.:)

I don't doubt that FI is superior to carbs, but from my seat-of-the-pants dyno, I don't feel any lean spot at that rev range.
