Hartley fined $25k / Tortorella suspended 15 days
IMO, Hartley needs to be thrown out on his behind for pulling such a low class move. Torts, well, he's too emotional and fell for the trap. He should have put his number one or two line out there and told them to turtle so that they could draw an instigator penalty (the sisters are good at that). So what do you think?

I think that black and white images weave back and forth in a subtle, ironic commentary on illusion and reality.
. Wait, are we talking about the same thing here? ![]()

Torty matched his lines.....no real option for him otherwise. The trek down to Calgary's dressing room was more a show to his team that he was on their side. That being said, he should have just stayed put. Hartley was the real POS in this situation.
ps....yes they have been an awful hockey team of late but due to geographical reasons I cheer for the Flames. (that however was classless)

It was pretty a pretty stupid situation.
The stupid situation was followed up with an idiotic reaction to the stupid situation. Ahhh, life very close to the bottom is interesting....

No coach is going to tell players to turtle, no coach is going to allow his skill players to be dropped into that scenario. Look at John Scott going after Kessel. Had the Canucks 'behaved' this would have been a non event.

OK, maybe not turtle but don't accept the offer to fight. Hartley hid behind his players. He didn't stand up for them. He needs to grow a pair and stand up to management or take one on the chin with the officials and lead the pack instead of standing in the back row and letting them take the flack. At least Torts understands the concept of the coach pulling the attention and heat off his players (although he takes it just a little tooooo far).

The root cause is that long ago the league caved to the union and now there are too many players dressed for each game.
If the Sedin's were on the ice and the Flames decided to fight there would have been a bench clearing brawl. Sure the Flames are idiots, but if Vancouver had just fought the good fight and let the league discipline the Hartley this would have been a non-event. Let's not forget that games like this were a weekly occurrence in the 70's.

Players play. Fighters fight. The Flames probably loved it. When you lose every game a brawl two seconds in adds a little life to the game.

I have gained a bit of respect for Tortorella, over this. Rightly or wrongly.
I love his passion. He has been very respectful to the press, here in Vancouver. |

That's a condition in his contract. If he starts to act like he did in NY he will be fired.

Torts has always been passionate about taking one for the team. He understands the concept of the manager drawing the fire away from the players. The problem is that sometimes he gets so excited he shoots himself...

What is really funny is listening to PJ Stock criticize Torts. But yeah anytime there's a mugging as soon as the puck drops there needs to be severe penalties given.

Now accepting US $ at par

Given the situation Hartley created, Tortorella had no choice. Had he started anyone but his fourth line they would've been creamed. At least this way the fourth lines matched in the penalty box. I don't agree with T. going after the Flames' room. I think it was enough that he told his players how he felt about the situation. Yelling at H. from the bench also let all of the rest of us know too.
Cheers d.
