PCA newsletter editor needs advice on new computer
Hi all.
I've just been made editor of my local region's newsletter, and I'm looking forward to the job. But I need a new computer (PC). I'll be using CorelDraw 12 (it was a hand-me-down from the previous editor). I'm looking for a laptop computer to save space in my home office. It should have a CD-ROM drive. Any recommendations on something inexpensive? (<$450 or so) System specs I should look for? Thanks, d. |
Go Mac and don't look back! Best for desk top publishing hands down..

mac mini - about that price, but not a laptop

Do you still print your newsletter? I ask because there are more modern alternatives to CorelDraw. I mean v12 was released in 2004.
|
We do still print it. I'm taking over from the member who runs the print house that does the printing. Using CorelDraw because the template for the newsletter is a CorelDraw file.
Thanks, d. |
Got it. Was he on Windows? Because your CorelDraw installer might still be OS-specific, and I don't think CorelDraw 12 works on MacOS X. Unless you are planning to buy the latest version too...

Yes, he was on a Windows PC, which is why a Mac would be awkward...

I think it way be time to switch programs. I was the head ed of our regions rag several years ago - used Quark on a Mac and at first it was a bit strange but I quickly understood why so many desk top publishers use it...there are really good reasons; format ease, style ease, file sharing ease with print houses, flexibility.
