The reason we don't get invited to the 'nice' parties.
 

My facebook feed has been flooded with sappy 'play if forward' spam. Enough to drive me nuts.

Sample:
"To start off 2014 (and now, the month of love) in a fun way, I am participating in a pay it forward initiative. The first 8 people who comment on my status, saying " I'm in" will receive a surprise from me in 2014. It could be anything.... a book, a ticket, something homemade, a postcard... who knows. There will be no warning; when I have found the perfect surprise especially for you, it will come. To be "in", these same 8 people must make the same offer on their Facebook status by COPYING (not 'share') and making it their own. Together we join a Facebook connection of kindness, joy, and love whose intention it is to inspire more that is kind, thoughtful, generous, and loving for all in 2014. Imagine the ripple effect!

So I decided to have a bit of fun with it. Posted this to FB this morning:

"To start this year in a profitable way, I am participating in a Pay It Backward initiative. The first 5 people who comment on this status with "I'm in" will be completely screwed over by me at some point in this calendar year. Anything from credit card fraud, taking out loans in your name, I might even steal your dog and hold it hostage. Absolutely any surprise. There will be no warning and it will happen when the mood comes over me and I find something-anything I believe will suit you and bring me profit. These 5 people must make the same offer to their FB status. Please Copy this-do not Share. We will be making a web of skullduggery and avarice. Let's do more vindictive things to each other in 2014 without any other reason than to make our accountants smile and show how little we think of each other. Here's to a more machiavellian year."

Further reminder why I never visit Facebook.

I visit FB every couple of days, many of my friends (actual friends ;) ) use the group settings to invite you out for drinks after work and such....that stuff pings on my phone. BUT some of the stuff people think I care about.....sheeesh.......

I am married, middle-aged, content and for this (and many others) reason do not participate in social media..........................just my $.02

I disabled my FB account several years ago and never looked back. However, your idea has potential!

I'm on facebook because my parents love it. They are huge FB users, so its become a main way for the family to share photos and things. I don't mind it actually, but you do have to actively block some people and make sure your not getting a bunch of game spam.

Too funny. My girlfriend calls Pelican my facebook.

hhhhmmmm, she might be onto something there...I guess Pelican is what I replaced FB with!

Facebook is nothing more to me than a lazy man's blog where I can share pictures and significant events in my life with friends and family scattered all over the face of the planet.

I don't get too much spam because I am pretty judicious about who I "friend".

However there is alway a few misguided folks who still have to start the "like if you like me" or the "pay it forward" BS.

IMHO the pay it forward crap is just a new spin on the chain letter.

Anyone posting those "I want to see how many likes I can get" gets dropped immediately. Too many political posts, too many urban legend posts that they didn't bother to research 1st, etc... and I drop them like a bad habit!

If there was a Disgruntled Book, I'd be on it.
