meanwhile back on the bench....

Henry sent me this BRNO rifle that the wood was all polka dotted with mold under the finish. I wish I had taken some before pics, but I don't always have time to do a step by step slide show. Anyway here is the wood after stripping, bleaching, sanding, wooling, and 3 hand rubbed coats of finish. I didn't want to remove all the little dings and things that give the stock it's legend but it came out pretty nice. I touched up the bluing as well. I sent it back monday so I will let Henry post the after / completed photos.

Ya know Dave... I bet you could make a killing restoring guitars and basses :) Great work man!

targa911S 01-30-2014 01:38 PM

Thanks! BTW Bill I have an Aerodyne and a MIM PJ for sale.

herr_oberst 01-30-2014 01:56 PM

That soft glow, like the moon over water. That must be so satisfying to bring stuff back to life like that - and to have people give you cash money to do it? Bonus!

targa911S 01-30-2014 02:10 PM

yes it is. I have been a bit overwhelmed lately because of my wifes illness. When I can get the "me" time to do this stuff it washes some of the stress away for a while.

BRPORSCHE 01-30-2014 02:29 PM

David, What calibre?

targa911S 01-30-2014 03:00 PM

I believe it was a 6.5 x 50 or 55.

Mrmerlin 01-30-2014 03:39 PM

Baz 01-30-2014 03:58 PM

Looks really great Dave. I'm pacing back and forth waiting for the UPS truck. My driver said yesterday that he would be surprised if it went missing. Just what I wanted to hear!!!! lol

Eric 951 01-31-2014 10:07 AM

Very Nice David..reminds me to get my butt in gear and get the O/U 20 GA. SKB I PMd you about up to your shop so you can work your magic.

onewhippedpuppy 01-31-2014 11:35 AM

That's purty. Nicely done.

Henry Schmidt 01-31-2014 02:28 PM

It's here and it's beautiful. Thanks Dave.
Because this is a Porsche forum I thought it might be appropriate to showcase it on the deck lid of my 70 914/6.

This is a BRNO ZB 21H chambered in 7x57. This gun has double set triggers, a butternkife style bolt handle, 2-leaf rear sight, checkered pistol grip stock with cheekpiece and but pad, small Schnabel forend, swing swivels and a Redfield 8X. This is one of those rare guns that you don't see very often and would make a nice gun for hunting or collecting.

I am glad you like it Henry. Sorry it took so long.

BeyGon 01-31-2014 03:28 PM

Really nice work, both of you,

azasadny 01-31-2014 04:42 PM

Beautiful work! I've been refinishing several guns for a friend that has d been poly-urethaned. I applied tung oil and they have turned out fantastic. I still have the M1 Garand to go...

Henry Schmidt 01-31-2014 05:27 PM

Art, I'm glad you chimed in. You made me an incredible offer to reload some 44 AutoMag ammo and I dropped the ball. Please understand that your generous offer was appreciated. I just get side tracked so easily these days.
Cheers

targa911S 01-31-2014 06:07 PM

Art ..use Tru oil. You will like it much better than straight tung oil..how about some pics of your projects. They're getting of seeing my stuff all the time..
