Still waiting on 1099s I wonder how many of those I get, maybe I will count them this time. When I moved to Cali, got employees and a business, started using an accountant for my taxes. I do the payroll stuff, as it is pretty simple, but my income tax return is starting to get pretty arcane. I pay as I go along, and then pay some more in April.

Our accountant sent us a letter saying he was retiring as of this year. (sigh)
He sent along a letter of recommendation for a new guy.
New guy sent out a letter of intro a few weeks ago.
It was filled with so many typo's it wasn't even readable. (bigger sigh)

I wouldn't worry too much Scott....he's probably just a nimbers guy. I'm sure he'll have your "buck" in case of an audit :D

I need to gather appropriate paper work and send to my accountant soon.

KFC911 02-04-2014 02:11 PM

Out of curiosity Sid, are yours that complicated? The reason I ask is this..."gathering all of the info" and entering it has been made so dang easy in recent years with Turbo Tax importing it from the institutions (and previous return), that doing taxes has become almost painless for me. Maybe not in your situation, but I couldn't imagine doing it any other way these days. I sure wouldn't give the "access" that would allow a third party to be able to do that either...YMMV.

I used TT last 6 years. My situation is not very complicated. Although I can't file this early. I had to refile twice because some new 1099 or other came in the mail after I filed...

Tobra 02-05-2014 04:17 PM

I think the 1099s have to be sent out by the end of this month, so if you are expecting any, maybe wait until the second week of March. I always owe, so I never file until the day I have to do so.

Already done, the perks of marrying an accountant. The demands of her doing the taxes of the entire effing family for free........not so much.

Been there. Still waiting on a few 1099's and the sched K, that always comes late.

gathering all of the info
x2, always the most time consuming. I dont trust the automated tools so I do most calc's myself, especially cap gains, just to be sure.

We're just about to send all of the stuff to the accountant...

Nathans_Dad 02-06-2014 04:31 AM

I use TT, mine have been ready to file for a week but TT says the IRS has not finalized a form I need to file. It won't be ready until the 13th. Cue the conspiracy theory about the gubmint wanting to hold onto my money just a little longer...

UconnTim97 02-06-2014 06:28 AM

I e-filed on Monday and the money was in my bank account this morning. I did it all online. My taxes aren't all that complicated.

matt711 02-06-2014 06:38 AM

I am still paying the damn IRS off from last year... Should be ready to file (and start paying again)next month

SiberianDVM 02-06-2014 11:12 AM

TT for me for last 10 years. Got my Fed money back today. State will be much slower to refund.

masraum 02-06-2014 11:22 AM

I've been using turbo tax since 1997. I also got my mom to start using it. It always works. Most years my stuff is fairly easy, but then I think turbo tax makes it easy.
