I say the minivan is fixable. Replace the bumper and cracked bits, beat out the dents, straighten the tub as best as possible, upgrade to SSIs and a performance muffler, and drive on.
|
I'm with Matt.... That car is fixable. I've seen way worse brought back to life. And we know jake doesn't want a show car. So as long as they can make it look normal and track straight he's good!
|
But is it haunted?
|
If I were that particular Bonehead, I would see that as a good excuse to do a backdate. But then, I'm kind of a bonehead that way.
|
It was just a matter of time before Jake took his car off roading.
So......did you drive it back up the bank? |

Sorry to hear! It looks fixable though.
I did the same thing in my old driveway. I got a knock on the door from a neighbour in the morning. My daily driver rolled back out of the driveway, across the street and right up the neighbour's driveway. A few more feet, it would have hit the steep downslope right into the neighbour's basement garage. No damage. Very very lucky! |
another bonehead here..
'it was just here a few minutes ago MOM...' found it parked against the T-pole at the bottom of the St. Rika |
If it makes you feel any better, a long time ago I delivered pizza in the evening for extra cash. I go up to the door with two pies in my hand, and as I am taking money from the customer, I see headlights go down the driveway followed by a large crashing sound. My honda Civic plowed down his driveway, through his shed, and knocked over his harley. He was surprisingly cool about it all, his harley was barely scratched, and he fixed the shed himself. I felt like, well...... a bonehead.
Fix it Jake! |
I did the same thing twice but I'm not lazy so it didn't take me 11 years to do it again.
I parked on an icy hill and my car slid down the hill and into neighbors wall. Zero damage. Later that same night, I parked the same car on what appeared to be a level surface...came back out and car was nowhere to be seeing. Finally found it across the street and down an embankment against a tree. Once again, zero damage. It was a brand new BMW. |
Oh man. That's terrible, but thanks for sharing! So, how about putting the car in gear? Not a habit? :)
My dad did the same thing with the family car when I grew up. Backwards roll as well. At the bottom of the hill was a big pear tree. To fix it, we drilled a hole in the center of the dent. Put a big piece of steel bar stock inside the trunk and a chain to the pear tree. Put it in first and off we went for working out the dent with many small drives forward until the chain stopped the car, pulling the dent out. Worked pretty well. I thought it was fun how the pear tree was part in both the accident and the repair! I am with everyone else. Buy back and fix. I would also check how tweaked the tub really is. There is likely a grey zone between what the body shop considers needing fixing and what is still drivable with a creative alignment. G |
Minor scratches. My car looks like that each time I lend it to the GF.
Discuss a buy back from the insurance company is my vote. |
If there was a reasonably easy backdate solution for a 964, I'd consider going that route.
I was looking at the car carefully today, and I wouldn't even replace those bumpers. I already had scratches and dings... I think brand new bumpers would stifle me more than I'd like. Once I see what the numbers look like, I'm apt to have the quarter and tub fixed by a pro, and buy some used splash shields, turn signals etc and put them on myself. I'd far rather put the extra $$ into some engine mods.. ...or maybe a mild hotrodded engine. Then I could take the 3.6 from this car and put it in the SC... hmmmmmmmmmmm |
Yes, first thing that came to mind was "driveline donor". But 3.6 conversions are $$$, even if you have the engine. They were all the rage for a while but I haven't heard much about that route any more recently.
Good Luck! G |
I think it will still haul firewood.

Ouch! Sorry to see this...
|
BTDT. Got out of my truck and started walking in the house. Turned around for some reason only to watch my truck roll down the driveway, across the street and into the neighbors yard across the street.
|
Sorry
What? I miss that car!. I'm sorry about the accident. Hope they fix it. I agree. I have looked for another air cooled and stuck with my 996. Doing a bunch of work on it now. Getting rid of the light weight flywheel and GT clutch stuff and going back to stock and doing the ROW suspension from sun coast Porsche. Anyway, still waiting for you to come back to NY. Would love to catch up for a drink and dinner on me.
