Picture from Mars: That is How Insignificant Earth is.

New photo from Nasa. It shows the earth over the horizon. And seen from Mars all our problems on Earth seem completely insignificant.

I knew Earth was insignificant long before I saw that photo. We are less than a speck of dust.

Speak for yourself; I've never subscribed to that sentiment. I believe the human mind fills the cosmos. After all, "we" sent something there to take that picture in the first instance. Hardly a "speck of dust" accomplishment.

What that photo demonstrates perfectly is how big our solar system is.
To colonise Mars would be an extrodonary achievement but what could we achieve from there?

This second image from the same page is most interesting.

Our moon seems such a long way from Earth.

How do we know that is really a picture of Earth? Just me being a skeptic.

I love this sort of thing. The pic with the inset showing our moon is very cool. It's not that surprising when you consider that if we look up and see mars, or even Venus or Saturn or jupiter, we just see a dot. As much as I can "zoom in" with my telescope, the best view that I've had of Mars is similar to the picture below. I can see the "canals" and the polar caps.

not my photo...

As I see it, every lump floating around out there is significant.....with a lot of nothing in between......ah, not including the "dark matter".

To colonize Mars would be like camping out five miles from your house then saying you have seen all the earth.
